Was reading through the PDGA rules changes for 2011.

Some of these are significant:

1. TD can declare a drop zone for lost discs.

There are several holes that local TD's should enact this rule in my opinion.  Any hole where losing a disc is common, even on shots that are not so bad, and it causes for excessive penalty and long delays.  For example, when the grass is tall at Fairfield, I would have a drop zone on Holes 10, 12, and 18.

2.  Discs that wedge or travel through the side of the basket are not considered to be in.

Obviously this makes sense.  Not sure what took so long to change this rule.

Did they rule that if you are hanging on a nub on the outside of the basket that it  DOES NOT COUNT?

That's what the summary of the rule changes says, but that's not how I interpret the rule. The rule was poorly written.

Chuck Kennedy already clarified that on one of the forums and he said that it does not count. The disc may not enter through the bin, through the top of the basket, or hang on the outside of the bin on the nub. If nobody in the group saw how the disc entered the bin, then it is assumed it's good (for example, if the disc really got in by wedging itself through the basket, but nobody in the group observed it happen, then it's good).

what happens on a putt that enters thru the chains or into the inside of the  basket and wedges out thru the bottom onto the ground.

I'd say you replace that basket.  8)

Ok so whats the ruling on this.

Played a hole in Ely Minnesota over the summer. 183' but you were elevated probably 90' above the basket. Threw a big hyzer around the Pine tree gaurding the hole. we heard metal but that was it, didn't think it stayed. when we got to the bottom, it was stuck in the basket, half in, half wedged out(actually looked like a taco shell.   Would that still be an Ace after the rule change?

Brett - if it enters through the chains and is wedged out then it's good. If it falls out - then it's no good and blame the basket manufacturer.

Ger - no, those putts no longer count.

Doug - by today's rules, since nobody observed it wedge in, it would still count.

This thread has a lot of the same scenarios you guys have and more. It helps reading through it some http://www.discgolfreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=20416
