Over the weekend, the Jackson Four drove around the lake to hit the wonderful disc golf courses in Western Michigan. In 5 days, we played 5 great courses (Flip City, Beast, Beauty, Branstrom, and Shore Acres), and 270 holes of golf.  The highlight of the trip had to be playing Flip City 8 times in total and throwing back some beers with the owner Bill.  All in all it was a very fun disc golf trip.  Here is a video that I compiled along the way.  I am very into filming and editing videos so all feedback-negative or positive is welcomed and helpful.  Enjoy and thanks for looking!

Nice highlights.  Looks like it was fun.  Surprised you didn't play Goliath while you were there.  Goliath is my favorite of the three at Mason County Park.

Very nice Sayer. I really liked "When Discs Hit Trees"!  ;D There are a lot of trees in western Michigan!!! I liked the pacing of the video. I think some disc golf videos have trimmed the clips so short that you don't have a chance to just absorb the layout of the hole. Your shots were long enough to see what all is going on with the hole. I like that.

When I'm at Flip City I always feel that my soul is filled with the Holy Spirit of disc golf. Nice to see it even in video! Is Pepper still alive?

Thanks for all the kind words!

@ Bruce - I wish we could have played Goliath.  We had only allotted one day to play Mason County and opted for Beauty and Beast first as it was pretty crowded and we did not want to compete with the Beast players.  By the time we finished it was 7:20pm and we feared not being able to finish Goliath by 9:00pm.  Goliath and Leviathan are on our wish list for our next trip.

@ Jon - Flip City is something else, this is our third visit there and each time we go I appreciate all the work and care that Bill has put in a little bit more.  You are absolutely right about the Holy Spirit of disc golf!  Thanks for the feedback on the video, I appreciate hearing what other people think about the pacing and timing of everything.  Unfortunately, we did not meet a Pepper so I do not know whether he/she/it is still alive :(

awesome work Sayer. looks like you guys had alot of fun. always great to see an entire family playing this great game. and yes like Jon said, When Discs Hit Trees was fun to watch, as well as those that didn't make the highlight reel. I loved watching that black putter hop over limb after limb after stump. looked like it was still rolling once it got to the grass wayyyyy down the hill  :o

keep up the great filming.

I first met Pepper about 10 years ago. He was the unofficial mascot of Flip City. He seemed like a pretty young dog at the time so I thought that he might still be alive. Every time I went to Flip City he would come running out of the house or the woods to greet us. Then he would walk along with our group as we played. If it was the first time that you played Flip City it was helpful to have him along because he knew where the next tee was! He was not a trained hunting dog but if he saw you looking for a disc he'd show you where it was. You just had to pay attention because he wouldn't stop and bark or anything but he'd run right over your disc. He never stayed with us for more than 5 or 6 holes though. He'd see a rabbit to chase or he'd hear another group of people pulling up to play. The first time we met him we had no idea where he'd come from or if he'd chase our discs when we threw them. But he'd just sit a little off to the side of the tee and watch us throw. He had good disc golf etiquette! After our first round there we met Bill and found out Pepper's name. We had already planned to play Flip City again on our way "back down" later in the week so I asked Bill if it was ok if I brought Pepper back a treat. He said sure. So, after our first round on our way back down from the more northern courses Pepper was hanging out by hole 1. I offered him the bone that I had bought for him. He looked at the bone and then back at me and then the bone and back at me. He inched closer and then looked up at me as if to ask "What's the trick here?"  :D

I just now came across this thread.  I remember Mark talking about how great of a trip that was, it sure does look like it was a TON of fun!  I'm jealous :)  Someday I'll get out there and try those courses!

Sayer - how long did it take you go through all of the film and photos to compile that video?  It's always a challenging task!

If any of you would ever like a guided tour of those courses, I'm available really cheap!

There is a new course going in soon just 15 minutes west of Ludington.  It will be used for the State Championships.

@ Jon, what a great story!  I wish we could have met Pepper.

@ Scott, I would say it took me about 3-4 hours. Compiling the video is not too bad.  For most of the shots I just sneak video during our round.  Sometimes I will "throw and go" and throw my shot and run ahead to get a good angle to shoot all the other throws from the family.  I have been doing video for over 5 years now so its not too bad for me.

Once again, thanks for the kind words.
