The IOS crew will be hitting a brand new venue as we go to Indian Oaks in Marengo, IL!  The event will be on Saturday/Sunday July 21st and 22nd at Indian Oaks Park.  Same divisions splits as usual - Open, Intermediate, Novice on Saturday, all other divisions Sunday.

# of holes to be played are TBD.  It depends on what is going on for soccer and stuff like that.  We hope to add at least 2 holes to this brand new 18-hole course.

We will have special fundraising opportunities available for those of you who enjoy the Marengo course and would like to help support them raise funds for concrete tees!  I guarantee you'll greatly enjoy coming out to play this course.

The PDGA website and pre-registration will be updated to reflect this venue change ASAP.

SEE YOU THERE!

In addition to a fine event at Crystal Lake the traveling trophy from the DISContinuum Club Challenge  will be awarded to DGU will be awarded on Saturday July 21.

There is going to be a VENUE CHANGE.  The next IOS will NOT be at Crystal Lake.  The park district pulled out on me today.  I'm hoping to have the new venue available to announce tomorrow.  It's going to be at a location that an IOS has never been to before, so I'm excited!

Ahhhh! Thats the same weekend as our unsanctioned tournament in Freeport...

stpitner

Sorry about that - not much we can about conflicts with unsanctioned events.  The schedule is already pretty tough to get dates throughout the year even for PDGA sanctioned ones.  Wish we could be a little bit further East for you, but we unfortunately did not have much choice.

That's one of the benefits to sanctioning your events. If you do, you will have some reasonable protection for your dates from other tournaments nearby.

I'm not angry, just in shock since it got moved from Crystal Lake. Now that its at Indian Oaks I might even come down for Sunday! But yes, being further East would have been nice.

stpitner

Only 10 days away!  I played the course - it's definitely more challenging than Crystal Lake, and I think everyone is going to have a ton of fun!  A couple guys out there have been putting in a TON of work to get this venue prepped for everyone, so I'm hoping we can give them a good turnout!

We are definitely going to have 2 temp holes - one of them in a surprise location - I'll post about that soon.  The other will help connect hole 18 back to 1.  There might be 2 holes on the way back to 1, still undecided.

The pavilion where Tournament Central will be set up is in between hole 1 and 2, pretty close to the main park district building.  No power down there, going to have to figure out how to handle that!

Scott,

When are you going to post the current players' list on the PDGA.  Just trying to get an idea which division to play.  If I sign up for one division and it is sparse on game day, can I switch to another one?

stpitner

pre-registration is very slow right now.  It seems this year not many people are motivated to pre-register.  Yes, you will be able to move divisions as long as they are playing the same day (but please make sure you notify us by 8:30 AM which is the close of registration) so that we don't have to rewrite a bunch of scorecards.  The sooner you can let us know the better because it also affects what hole you get assigned to.

Scott, is there a bicycle/walking/jogging path at this park? An MUT as I've found out bikers call it. Multi-Use Trail.

there is a former trolley line that is dirt/grass that runs through a some of the wooded parts - I don't know where it starts/ends, but I do know that walking part of the course you either walk on some of it or cross over it, I forget which.  Otherwise I only remember roads that go through it.

I'm super psyched to see the IOS series headn out this way to my baby.  And yes it is a much harder and way more fun than crystal lake( no disrespect to my first love).  We r headn out on Saturday to do some more maintenance on the course and put down some new carpets.  All r welcomed to come out and help, the more the merrier.  Unfortunately, I will not b able to play next weekend cause it falls on the same date as the music and arts festival WhipperSnap that I've been promoting all summer.  It's a bummer, but it's great recognition for the course.  Thank u much.    And yes there is a walking trail starting at hole 12 which is the entrance and exit for the loop.  The trail only comes into play on the course for walking reasons, no holes actually go down it.

I am pleased to report that we will be restocked on Wizards at Marengo!  In addition to some Super Soft and Super Stupid Soft I am expecting some RFF (Really Freaking Floppy) the softest yet.  They were out of stock of the 4-S softness, but I was also told by Justin that the 4-S and the RFF are almost identical really.  Supposedly I also have some Organic and Glow wizards on the way as well, awesome!

If the shipment arrives in time we'll be freshly restocked on stools and chairs as well!

Pre-reg closes tonight!  Come on out and enjoy this great weekend.  The 3 temp holes...

- Hole 1A, a 244' anhyzer with a triple mando - designated by staying in between the two marked trees and staying below the top of those two trees.  Can play short of mando with no penalty.  If mando missed you take a stroke and throw from drop zone.
- Hole 19, a 750' bomb.  Plays uphill at first, and once you are on flat land funnels down towards the basket with OB baseball field fence on the right side and OB yellow rope on the left side and behind the basket.
- Hole 20, a 312' island hole.  Plays as a righty hyzer if you think you can hyzer your disc and land in the island.  Everything on the tee side of the road is in bounds, everything on and over the road except the island is out of bounds.  If you go OB from your tee shot, you go to a drop zone that is about 100' from the basket.  If you go OB on any throw after your tee shot, then you play from where you went OB.  Do you play safe and stay on the one side of the road until you can safely cross into the island? Or are you accurate enough to hyzer it out there and get it to land safely in the island?  Sweet hole :)

DEFINITELY worth your time to come out and play this course!

Thanks to all that played in IOS #52.  It was pretty good weather, and it was a great course to play.  We are definitely going to be back next year!

We had scores posted before we left for the day each day.  The results WILL get turned in to the PDGA before their ratings update cutoff next week.
