If you're a true Cubs fan, you don't steal the ball from the players!
Beware the goat...........

mirth

Oh please, that ball was foul. Its not the fan's fault that he was doing what 99.9999999999% of the surrounding fans would have also done.

Why not find something more constructive to lay the blame on, like dropping a ground out that coulda been the double to end the inning?

myndcraft

I agree thet dropping the ball for the double was a horrible horrible mistake. I do however thing that any cubs fans present, and paying attention, would NOT have gone after that ball. While I do not lay total blame on that one incident I do think it was a factor. It was a morale and momemntum changer. One which the Cubs should have been able to recover from, and the fact they were not able to is no one's fault but their own's. In the end though I do think its a factor, had that not been in their minds maybe they would have gotten that double right afterwords.

Yeah, needless to say that guy's life is gonna change... at least for the short term.

Jay - good points, although I still think that anybody in that seat prolly woulda gone for it. Did any of you notice he was wearing headphones last night? My guess is that he was listening to the WGN broadcast, or possibly the audio from Channel 12.

Jim - you're on crack. The cubs are going to roll all over the marlins tonight. Its their destiny, they're on a mission from gahd. ;)

If that would have happened on the South Side, they would have beaten the hell out of that guy.

*awakens from the shadows.... again*

Mirth> I dunno, you may be right some other fan may have gone for it had they been there. I know personally givin the situation and Rameriez's glove right there, I wouldn't have gone for it. I dunno, to me it just seems like an absoultely stupid thing to do. It's one thing to screw with the other teams fielders, but your own???? Maybe he was paying to much attention to the radio broadcast than the real thing. If thats the case my opinion is there were thousands of people that would have killed to be at the park, he shoulda stayed home and listened to his radio there.

Brett> Mirth is right he would have been dead had he not been pulled into custody. Did you hear the chant? "Kill him, kill him"

As for the violence  issue, today I am calm, yesterday had I been there, I can honestly say I would have made sure the guy was eating baby food for the rest of his life, but hell I have issues :D

Oh c'mon. Everybody's eyes were up in the air! Are you saying you would have had the presence of mind to not only watch the ball but also pay attention to where Ramierez was?

And wearing the headphones, potentially listening to the game.... You've never watched a game with the volume down on the TV & listened to the radio broadcast at the same time? Too bad.... WGN's broadcast is sometimes up to 5 seconds ahead of the TV signal, not to mention Ron Santo is so much better to listen to than Fox's talking heads.
Don't forget your towel!

myndcraft

so what did he take his eyes off the ball then when it was a foot away from the glove? If his perhperial vision is that bad I hope he doesn't have a drivers liscense.

Nope I have never listened to the broadcast while watching the game. Why ruin what you are about to see. And in this guys case hes in the bloody park, his vision is ahead of the radio broadcast by 3 seconds.

I do agree though Santo is a better commentator I hope his health gets better soon. He deserves to be there for the Worlds... Not to mention the hall of fame.

Again, another difference between the north side & south side. Security stepped in & took him out becasue they were prepared. On the south side they let people on the field to beat & attack visiting coaches.

Either way, I could care less what happened last night. The Cubs have a chance tonight to get in the Series. For the first time since I was born, I feel good about the Cubs Organization. I've hated them brutally the last few years. Especially when they traded Grace to the D-Backs. I now own a few D-Backs shirts. For the first time they went out & paid for a manager & picked up some players. I think the Cubs are way ahead of schedule this year considering the brutal team they had under Baylor last year. Pitching + a good supporting cast. Maybe if the management continues to see that putting a winning product on the field, they will draw 3 million per year & still make a boat load of cash. I feel good about 2004 no matter what happens tonight. How many other teams can say that right now?

Well, as a Marlins fan (Yes I'm a real Marlins fan not a fair-weather fan, I grew up in South FL. Go Canes!) I think everyone made a bigger deal about the foul ball incident.  Did it give the Marlins another out, maybe.  Alou probably coulda caught the ball and made the out but the fan wasn't botching a double play either.  I'm worried about tonight's game agains Wood but really I can't complain, I don't think ANYBODY picked the Marlins to be in this position at the beginning of the year so I'll take it!  At least it's been a fun series to watch, and you can't always say THAT about baseball.
