Jon Brakel

This is my first attempt at dying a disc after doing some tests. I wasn't going to do anything like Dr. Dye but then Bruce inspired me by suggesting I do an american flag as if the flag were circular, whatever my interpretation of that may be. So here it is. This will probably be the only disc I ever dye in a Dr Dye like way. I have some ideas to take the dying in a different direction. We'll see if I can actually do it.

I don't think this is an exact rip-off of anything Jo-Jo has done but I did do some cool blocking like he does.

The disc was used.  The one above was the first of my dye experiments that Jon was willing to admit was "something."  I did this one below last night:

This was my "black arm band" putter I made to use at the first Gale Vaughn Memorial.  The black arm band was done in sharpy.  Underneath the stripes, if you look closely, you'll also see some blocking experiments when I was looking for a good blocking medium.

Looks like Dr. Dye might have some competition  :D

Looks better than my 1st set of dyed discs!!! <_<

You'll get the hang of it the more you do, they look great!!! :D

that sharpie one is a cool design, looks like a big cat print.

;) Nice job! Keep up the good work. You'll only inspire JoJo to do more! Competition can be a good thing!

Quit work, play disc golf :)

The only sharpie on that orange and black one above was the big fat stripe.  Since it would not come out but was wearing thin, I dyed over it while also doing the Tiger stripes.

I had lunch with one of the guys who invented dying today.  Jaybird gets all the credit but he was working with another guy who really had no artistic talent and no interest in pursuing the thing once they figured out some good techniques.  Anyway, this guy let me in on his secret for getting dye to set good, especially on Z plastic.  I doubt that this is J-Bird's current secret, but it made the black go really black on this Z-Hypmotizer.

If you spin that hypmotizer right under someones nose and talk low and slow you can get them to do pretty much anything.  Kelsey right now is taking out the garbage and Diana is baking a lasagna.  I'm going to take it to work tomorrow and get a bonus.

Tomorrow I'll post tonight's disc, a snowflake, that I drew using my new invention, the Symetricalizer.  I used the symetricalizer to get good spiral center lines on the Hypmotizer but then did the arms freestyle.  For the snowflake I'm using the symetricalizer all the way through the process.

Heh, 'symetricalizer.' Sounds like something Strong Bad would say.

Hahahahahahaha
If Jimmy Carter were King: the Great Symmetricalizer!

Strong Bad? Never mind. I'll look it up.

Nice disc, Bruce!

Sorry for the thread drift, but ???

Here is the UrbanDictionary.com listing for Strong Bad:

"Stirawng Bahd"

Strong Bad, a psychotic little man with a wrestling mask for a head and boxing gloves for hands, and a Blue Gem implanted in his forhead for taking caps off things, answers emails and beats up his friends.

Homestar: Here is the $510 for not beating me up this month, Strong Bad.

Strong Bad RULES! You lazy CRAP for CRAP!  But how do you type with boxing gloves on?

Thread correction!  Using the technique my friend hinted about at lunch, I managed to produce this blue snowflake pattern in about half the time.  If you saw this post earlier, you'll notice I got a better scan this time.  Love this concept.  I'm devising ways to get the plastic for more.

Yup, that about sums it up.

WOW!!!  Great job Bruce!!! :D

Maybe we will have to get together and discuss some secrets ;) !!!

They really do look nice, but you cant get better than me, or else you will dye all your discs, instead of me(and Jbird or course).

Top and bottom, kinda looks like stain glass or a cool floor in a really nice city building or something.

That's the best Dr. Dye rip-off I've seen.  Almost like the way Shakespeare used to steal from himself!   :D

Jo-Jo, check your e-mail and messages.  I sent you something somewhere, wherever it goes when you use this website to send e-mail.
