I want to do the labyrinth at Chartres next on a yellow CE 4X JK Valk.  This is the first good piece of merch I'll be dying.  Everything else was used plastic or junk merch.

I really want to do another snowflake but a yellow snowflake is kind of sick and it will have me humming that Frank Zappa tune whenever I see it.

But, a double blossom sunflower or black-eyed susan would work on yellow.  Hmmmm... The muse has arrived.

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

O.k., if some of these patterns are a little effeminate, remember that I'm practicing on the junior girls' discs1  I did this one for Sarah Scrivner:

The horizontal lines are scanner shadows.  There was a little bleed in the lower right area on that one.

This next one is for Alyssa.  I was trying for something that would look like spiraled tiger stripes and instead it came out looking like the layered petals of a rose.  The coloring on this one is subtler than many of the others but not as subtle as the scan makes it appear:

O.k., this one might be an exact rip off of something Jo-Jo did.  I did not have a computer available when I laid out this pattern to see if his was like this but I think he did something pretty much like this.  In my defense, "perfect" spirals are easy to make with the Symetricalizer, so this is not so much of a rip-off as it is the by product of the design tool I'm using.  In real life, the checks are nice and crisp.  The smudginess around the edges in this picture is shadows

You really have to see that checkered disc to appreciate it.  It is a Four Time Champion JK Valk with virtually no dome.  I don't know Innova so I don't know whether that's good or bad!    If I can make a better scan, I'll edit the post.

I took some time working with the Labyrinth at Chartres on Wednesday night and Thursday but could not reproduce it as disc art.  I'm corresponding with a labryrinth designer and maybe he'll send me a better pattern in exchange for advertising space on the under rim.  Type labyrinth and Chartres in a search engine and you can find what I'm talking about.

I'm also looking for some of those medieval knot patterns.  If you know what I mean and can shoot me a website, I'd appreciate it.  The knot patterns are kind of like the braiding around the sunflower on Sarah's disc only more complex.

Here's some of those knots you were asking about.  Just went to google and typed in Celtic Knots to find this site.

I found a website with a Celtic Knot design tutorial that was written to be so complicated as to cause you to pay $60 for a computer font that would automatically generate knots.  Seeing grids side by side with the knots the grids generate kind of made it all come together.  I'm going to play around with a 6X6 spiral and see how it looks.  Thanks.

This is my first Celtic knot on a disc.  The disc is a Crush.  It bled a little around the 1.8 and PDGA stamps.  It was way too much work and did not come out as well as I would want.  I used a spiral pattern in the design of the knot but it is not very spirally.  The loops at north, south, east and west are not traditionally accepted in celtic knot design but I'm not a Celtics fan.

Nice disc, Bruce. It's hard when something so nice can be such a pain in the butt to produce! :)

I sold a mistake yesterday for $15.  It was just a $5 Challenger with some spirals that bled badly.  So I tried to dye the entire top black leaving the bottom orange, but the tape residue blocked the second dye about 30-60% in an uneven pattern.  Looked like a spiraled orange disc that was thoroughly toasted.  I think the guy who bought it was toasted too.

This one is based on the flag pirate Henry Avery flew.  He was forced into piracy when he and his crewmates went four months without pay in the Royal Navy.  They stole the boat, ditched the Captain, and headed south around Africa and back up to the Red Sea.  There they joined forces with several other pirates and plundered the Islamic pilgrims on their way to Mecca.  They took several tonnes of gold, silver and diamonds, divided it in a right pirately fashion, and retired to New Zealand.

Avery eventually changed his name and returned to England with a hoard of diamonds.

Herewith, for your viewing pleasure:
