I think Brett and I are running the California State Championships [of Michigan] on October 1 and 2 at Willow Brook in Byron.  Jon will probably make a webpage for that too.

California is the game played by the odd man in best shot doubles where he gets one extra throw per hole.  At the California State Championships everyone plays California!

It doesn't look good for me to make the MDG0 Events.

I can't wait until the Cali State Championships. That is a great concept. If Byron doesn't work out, I really think Stoney Creek is the ultimate California Course.

Curiously, it does not look good for me and my family to play much of the MDGO series either!  I can play four, maybe five, of the ten legs and the Finals.  The Series expanded but we forgot to add extra weekends to the calender.

But why I'm posting is because I have Cali State Championship/Willow Brook news.  Tracy likes the idea and thinks we can sell it to the ownership.  I can probably get B/C sanctioning if I sell it to the PDGA as the successor to Byron Big D Doubles.

We are making headway on the course issue.  The ownership is willing to do a trial season with temporary baskets and low key promotion to see how it works, which is a fair compromise.  Disc golf will be $10 for 18 holes, which is a fair price for a private pay-to-play facility that charges twice that for ball-and-stick.  I'm not certain whether the rate will go up during peak times.  The course is likely to be open for disc golf in a couple of weeks.  It needs to dry out a bit before the back part of the course will be ready for customers, and all of the cool disc golf holes are on the back.  In fact, one of the holes on the back that is kind of lame will be redesigned and should be much cooler.  There is another lame hole that we are going to take a look at redesigning.

Have you ever wished you could play disc golf for PDGA B-tier points, pdga ratings and cool trophies, and skip the high entry fees and lame payouts?

For $10 after rebate you can play my MDGOs.  For $10 after rebate you can afford to play both days if you want.

There is lots of camping near Flip City and Discontinuum members can camp for free in my large back yard if volunteers named Brakel take all the guest rooms.

Even if you aren't going to come out to one of the best private courses in the midwest for this tournament, check out the Flip City website anyway by clicking HERE. Check out the pictures of the holes. It is truly disc golf heaven on earth. Probably a lot of you will play the Prairie Open since its your home course and its close (not to mention that its a fine course!). But if you're looking to travel or want to play an amateur B tier that weekend, you could do no better than coming to Flip City!

I've decided to make the Flip City MDGO a USDGC qualifier.  As posted on PDGA.com:
Quote

I have a USDGC invitation to give away. I've decided to give it to the player who shoots the best round from longs at the Flip City MDGO, regardless of the division he plays in, and regardless of which day he plays, and regardless of what state he is from. If there is a tie, the play-off will be Sunday at the end of the Sunday rounds.

So, for example, if Schwass wants to take four shots at shooting the hot round, he could play Pro 2 on Saturday and Pro Master or Open on Sunday. Only Pro 2 will play two rounds from longs on Saturday. All other Saturday divisions will play 1 or 0 rounds from longs.

But wait, there's more: if you are not eligible to play Saturday [because you are a pro rated over 960] and you'd like to take two extra shots at the hot round, I'll let you play two rounds on Saturday for the trophy-only entry fee. You won't get PDGA or MDGO points. Your entry fee will be a donation to the process; a portion of it will be donated to Bill, some of it will find its way back to the pro purse

That's not all: I'll also run staggered start qualifying rounds on Friday, starting at noon and Saturday evening after the Saturday tournament players are off the course for $10 per round. Again, the entry fee will be a donation to the process; a portion of it will be donated to Bill.

Trying to get the word out to as many players as possible.  If it has been your dream to play in the USDGC and you can shoot a 996 round, that's all it took to shoot the hot round last year.

Kiralyn finished the trophies today.  We are using the micro-basket mini-trophies like we did before.  Here is one of the five for Advanced:

Flip City was fantastic, as always. Turn out on Saturday was very good--I think we had 54 players. Better than the last couple of MDGO's that were in more populated parts of the state. Sunday was gloomy and rainy off and on and I think that kept some of the Advanced players away. We had 52 total players for Sunday. On the other hand the pro turn out was great probably because of the potential USDGC invite. Sunday after about 11am turned into a gorgeous day.

I played on Saturday and was in a three-way tie for Rec for 1st place at -1 off the medium tees. We played longs in the afternoon round but I couldn't keep up with the guy who wound up finishing it. I finished in second and got $50 in brass cash (prizes). I don't remember how many played Rec, we'll have to wait for Bruce's results.

I ran the tourney on Sunday with help from Becky, Jack and Diana. It's funny how effecient we have all gotten at running these things. We were ready to do the awards about 30 seconds after the playoffs finished, but half the winning players were in the parking lot drinking their post round beers! Bruce came in tied for 3rd thru 6th in Advanced. We had plaques for 1st thru 5th so they had a CTP for the plaques. Bruce managed to be the one left out on that one. All those in that big tie got $64 in brass cash. We had 20 Advanced players.

I bought 2 CryZtal Z Challengers while I was there that I'd like to give away as CTP prizes at a bag tag challenge or at auction with the proceeds to go to the IOS.

I posted a quick update at the USDGC thread on PDGA.com.

I can get up unofficial results for Saturday or Sunday.  I think I'll post Sunday since i did Saturday for the Kensington.

My pair of -2s would have been 945 rounds last year.  I hope those numbers hold up for this year.  There were some good players who could not figure out how to throw well in calm air and near perfect weather who may have boosted ratings for everyone.  Thank you Mark, Gary, Critter and all.
