Announcing the California Handicapped Twin Tag Challenge

One round at Lippold Park, Crystal Lake, Saturday, March 13, 10:00 a.m.

Handicapped Singles Play for Tags and Sidebets

Entry Fee:

A Discontinuum tag, a Metropark tag or participation in one of the optional sidebets:

Optional Sidebet #1:  Costs $2 or donate a new unmarked disc.  The winner of this sidebet will receive a lovely blue Riptide.  If there is sufficient participation, additional or alternative discs will be offered.
Optional Sidebet #2:  Costs $10.  100% Cash payout to the top 40% of sidebet players.

You can buy a Discontinuum tag from Brett or a Metropark tag from Bruce at the event.  Tag holders can just play for tags or also participate in the optional sidebets.  All tags are challenged by all other tags of the same species.

Format:  One round, 22 holes, singles play, with the California handicap.
The 22 holes will consist of the permanent 18 and 4 safari holes which may be used in the Illinois Open Series, Crystal Cruise.
The California handicap works like this:  for every ten points your PDGA rating is below 960 you get one California hole.  A California hole is a hole where you get a soft mulligan, i.e., a hole where you play the California format frequently used at best shot doubles for the odd man.  So, a 927 rated player would get three Cali holes.  An 867 rated player would get nine Cali holes.  Take 'em when you want 'em, but when they're used up you're on your own.
I will bring PDGA results from the popular northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin tournaments to help us figure out your rating.  If you are entirely unrated, we will assign you a rating.

The Rolling Ace Pool:  We're going to get the Illinois Open Rolling Ace Pool rolling.  The ace pool is $2 and for this event only it will pay out 200%!

Note:  The tag holder cash discount will be in effect.  If you need to buy a disc or two, bring some cash and get a better deal than you are getting anywhere else.

If we have a threesome, remind us of your situation and we'll put you in it and let your group tee off first.

is this  current  ?

For the most part yes that is correct.

FYI to everyone expect the park to be soggy in some places and VERY muddy in others. I played about a week ago and the amount of mud in some places wasn't even funny.

Still a great time though.

Well, we could play at Stoney Creek or Kensington where it is never muddy, but it would be a long drive!   :D   Probably just about everywhere is muddy in March, except Kensington and Stoney.

I've printed out a few scorecards on light card board.

AOL Weather:  Saturday: Partly cloudy skies in the morning will give way to cloudy skies during the afternoon. High 46F. Winds S at 15 to 25 mph.

Not bad compared to the weather we had one year ago for the Fairfield Safari.

This is a great format. It really leveled the playing field out. What would have been the scores if we had not played the final safari holes?

I had 2 5s on the safari holes, I believe Brett & Bruce had 4-4 and Jon was 5-4 or 5-5 I think.

I think we all agreed that the safari holes were 'true par 4', so I guess you could say par was 62  ;) .

It was a very cool format; glad my lousy rating came in handy for something.  :P
