Anyone have an opinion to share on the Board of Director candidates?

pickax

I still haven't decided who I am voting for yet.

McCoy seems to have been doing some good things in his first term, (He was the one who pushed hard for sanctioned leagues).
Shive is a thorn in the sides of the rest of the BOD. Some of his ideas are good, others not so much. Unfortunately I'm not sure having him on the board is productive.
There's a couple of candidates that still think that the big sponsorship check is out there we just need to find it. In general, I find they are still going for the same pipe dream that has kept the PDGA stagnant.

I voted for Sinclair & McCoy.

I refuse to vote for Shive. I don't like most of what he debates and he stepped down during his tenure several years ago.

I considered all of the others.

Diana and I got to know Shawn Sinclair back when Juliana used to do an annual workshop for our junior league.  He is an honest, sensible and decent person.

Back when the PDGA had a message board, McCoy was a strong advocate of the am-scam model for raising "added cash."  He also thought ratings were a waste of PDGA resources.

Peter Shive is strongly for and against so many things it would be hard for anyone to agree with him on much more than half of what he is for!

Ultimately, PDGA elections are about name recognition.

So the results are in.  McCoy and Shive have won.  I'm happy for McCoy, not sure about Shive.

I'm VERY surprised that there's no candidate running in Kansas.  It was all write-in.  Rusco looks like he had the most write-in votes.  Only New Hampshire and Ontario had more than one candidate in the running.  Steve Boylan from Indiana takes over from John Cavaletto.  Terry Miller from Wisconsin remains as coordinator.

There's always the write in or two that is amusing
Howard Stern (Wisconsin)
Anyone but _____ (fill in the blank)
Matt Travis (Indiana). Isn't he still here in Illinois?

I would have accepted anyone but Shive. It's a bad day for the PDGA.

Looks like Shive stepped down before his tenure started. Posted on DGCR http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2132464&postcount=395
Quote from: Peter Shive
On August 3 I informed Brian Graham and Rebecca Duffy (Board president) that, although elected, I would not take office when the new terms start September 1. I recommended that Shawn Sinclair be appointed to take my place.

The main reason for my action is that Board members have a duty of loyalty that I would not be able to fulfill. After my oh-fer of June and July, documented by several of you who posted snippets of meeting minutes on this thread, I have given up hope of ever being able to accomplish anything significant for the little people from service on the Board. Instead of working optimistically for positive goals, I would likely spend the next term working pessimistically (and unsuccessfully) to obstruct other Board members from enacting programs that they clearly believe in. That is an impossibly negative prospect. It is also dishonest because it is actively disloyal. I need to get out of their way and let them do their thing.

It works both ways. Recent developments suggest to me that there may well be attractive options for the little people outside of the PDGA, and I want to be able to look into them and perhaps even help develop them. The duty of loyalty to the Board prevents me from doing that, and also from being as candid on this message Board as I would like. I now believe that I can be far more effective working outside the Board than from within. Starting September 1, I will be able to do just that. My first project will be to revivify my Divisional Tour Newsgroup, which has suffered from inattention while I tilted at windmills on the Board. I will continue to post here, on a different thread, when I feel like I have something worth saying.

Some people believe that I dislike the PDGA. Not so. The PDGA has done, and will continue to do, many wonderful things. Some of these things have changed my life, big time, in amazing ways. I expect that I will remain a PDGA member because for me the positives still outweigh the negatives. I would even work for the PDGA, so long as the work I was doing was going to improve the lot of the little people. Some Board members claim to have valued my "different perspective" on things. I told Brian and Rebecca that anytime they wanted an antithetical opinion, I would be happy to provide it, but that I don't need to be on the Board to do it.

Some believe that I dislike Open players. Also not so. I have happily contributed thousands of dollars of my own money to their purses, and I wish for them to prosper from their efforts in the game. My only disagreement is where the money for the prospering should come from.

you got your wish though, didn't you? he didn't take office.  Also I see that Avery Jenkins has stepped down.  What in the world is going on?  Is it just a political battle like just about any other group of people that try to get together to run a conglomeration of people?  Sounds pretty sad, really.

People are joining the BOD with an agenda. You can't approach it that way or you will get frustrated.

Shive is an idiot for running in the first place.

Avery stepping down is a good thing. He hadn't been to a BOD meeting all year. Hopefully someone new who is committted will get the job done.
