Jay,

Jon is going to be uploading picture into the gallery. Would you be willing to put together a page like you did for Fairfield? I'm working on hole descriptions.

While you are at it, can you add New in 2004-> The baskets at Fairfield have been repainted and have all new bolts, to the Fairfield Page? & that the parking lot has been expanded.

There was one typo for #5 and an adjusted comment for #10, but I forget how to add an attachment.

well, sure, but are attachments disabled for non-officers or something?

Shady Oaks Park
Streamwood, IL

Hole #5 (250 Feet)
The basket sits on the side of a very steep grade hill. There is a fence at the top of the hill that is out of bounds.  You must be accurate with your drive so you have an easy two. A putt that hits the basket and misses has a good chance or rolling down the hill.

Hole #10 (390 Feet)
This is another hole you get to grip it and rip it. Down the left side of the fairway is a fence that marks out of bounds. There is plenty of room over there and it takes a horrible RH hyzer to find out of bounds. The wind can pull your disc into the cattails on the right if you’re not careful though.

thanks,
Damon

Very good job on the descriptions Brett.

I think #5 should read as follows:

I would remove the word "grade" in #9. #10 description isn't complete. It ends with "The basket " and nothing more. In #17 I would replace "grade" with "slope".

I would replace globally the word "rough" with "shule".

This is my official Ops member opinion.  ;)

Isn't "shule" a particularly (koff, koff) "Michigan" term?  :P

Some people on the PDGA board came up with the term as far as I know. I've also read it in DGWN. I think of it as a non-ball golf term. A term that applies only to disc golf. Differentiation is good, I think.

To me it seems a bit silly, and very confusing.  Shule, doesn't really exist in the dictionary.  Shul however, is a synagogue.  While we all pray when we hit the rough once in a while, it should just be called "the rough".  That's just personal opinion though.

I just recently learned the term "shule" from watching the Pro Worlds that took place in Michigan. I did remember them saying that it was something the Michigan golfers had named the "ugly" rough.

I think it might confuse some people, unless you note in the description that shule = rough.

Personally, I like the term "shule" better than rough. It just sounds more fun and makes being in the "shule" not as bad as being in the "rough"

Did not mean to change this thread into a shule vs. rough debate. DiscTV also used the term extensively during their broadcasts. I think it will be the disc golf term for rough. If you think its "too cutting edge" then don't use it.

All 18 holes are uploaded. If its not obvious, I used the following naming convention: [course][hole#][picture view] where t=tee pad, m=middle of the hole, and b=basket. For example, streamwood 1t is the tee view on hole 1 at streamwood. Since the pictures loaded in alpha order they are reversed from the order in which you would walk the hole.

Take a look at streamwood 11m. I think that's a great shot that also captures the feel of the course in one picture. I think I'll probably use that in someway on the IOS page.

When the cattails are waist high they are "rough."  When they are over your head, they are schule.

Mark Ellis popularized the term by defining it and using it in the 2000 Worlds Players' Guide.  Schule is the rougher parts of the rough, the parts that make you think about the 5-meter rule.  Etymologically, the term schule is derived from school and sh-t.  It is the sh-t that takes you to school.
