The next IOS is a little over two weeks away (May 31 / June 1 in Oswego). I have been burning the trophies and hope to oil them this weekend. If you are planning on playing in one of the smaller divisions, please pre-register so I have sufficient time to make a trophy for your division.

Trophies are all set.

If you are coming out to Oswego this weekend to get some practice in, know that we most likely be using a new mando on 4 Long to keep discs away from the Solar panels on the neighboring property. You will need to shape your shot over the short tee. We will be testing this tonight at handicap leagues.

I have a couple questions (sorry if they're stupid):
- how many holes/rounds are played?
- what time does it start?
- what time do you think novice would end on Saturday?

I'm a relatively new player from the city and would like to play in an event.

If you go to illoisopenseries.com should answer your questions. Except what time getting done going to be there all day.

Those are all legitimate questions. Most of the answers can be found either here: http://illinoisopenseries.com/details or here: http://illinoisopenseries.com/faq

There will be two rounds of 21 holes. We play the normal 18 plus three additional temp holes to make things interesting.
Registration/Check-in is from 7:30 - 8:30am.
Typically we are done before 5:00pm. Tournament rounds take longer than casual rounds. This is usually a surprise to first time players (I know I was quite surprised at my first event).

Check out those links above and if you have any other questions, by all means ask them.

Thanks. If I get (actually, more precisely, renew) my PDGA membership between now and the weekend, will I be able to use my membership for this tournament? (as in get a rating and not have to pay the $10 fee)

pickax

Yes. Just bring your receipt (either on paper or on your phone) and you'll be good. Try to note what your number is so that I can make sure I get it in the spreadsheet.

For the second time in as many weeks, I've had to post on this forum that unfortunately I will not be able to make it to my first Illinois event, but hopefully one day I'll come out discs in hand!

Oswego 2014 Course Info Sheet
General:
2m rule is not in effect.
Users of the bike/walking path have the right of way.
Round 1 will be played from the short tees marked by the permanent sign post.
Round 2 will be played from the long tees which are marked with a white flag.
Hole 19 uses a fly pad tee, hole 20 & 21 from the bike path. Same tee used both rounds.
Casual relief from poison ivy. Lie is nearest lie on line of play behind poison ivy.
Please stay off the bike path unless throwing.
On/Over route 25 is OB.

Hole Specific:
Hole 1, 2, 18, 19: Railroad tracks are out of bounds. The first rail is the OB line.  There is a casual relief area covering the gravel rail bed. Mandatory relief must be taken to the edge of the gravel. A throw from the previous lie option is still available for discs that land OB over the tracks.
Hole 3: The fence line is the OB line.
Hole 4: (Applies to both short and long tee) The fence line is the OB line. The fence line is extended into the woods. On OB throws from the tee and drop zone only, the next lie shall be from the short tee (aka drop zone).
Hole 4 Long: There is a mando at tree with ribbon on it. You can see this ribbon from the short tee. It is the tallest tree in the clump immediately in front of the long tee. Disc must pass left of this tree. Drop Zone is the short tee.
Hole 5 long: Logs are lying in the bottom of the ravine. These may be considered a playing surface if required.
Hole 6: Mando at tree with ribbon on it. Disc must pass to right of tree. Drop Zone is marked.
Hole 15: High grass on either side of the fairway is OB. A painted line marks the edge of the OB area and extends beyond the basket on the right side. The tall bushes near the basket on the left side are in bounds. The short tee is an optional drop zone for OB throws.
Hole 16: On/Over paved bike path is OB. In bounds area for hole 15 is OB. Normal relief applies.
Hole 17 short tee: Mando at tree with ribbon on it. Discs must pass to right of tree. Drop Zone is marked.
Hole 17 long tee: Mando at the big tree next to the short tee pad. Discs must pass to right of tree. Short tee is drop zone. The mando for the short tee is not in effect when playing from the long tee.
Hole 19: When teeing off, each group must honor the spotter out by the path for safety reasons. If a pedestrian/cyclist is hit, you will be DQ'd.  Round 1 uses the practice basket. For round 2 the basket is elevated near the short tee for hole 1. The near side of the paved bike path and the path itself are OB. OB discs from tee shots are not retrieved until a player successfully marks a lie inbounds. For OB throws from the tee, the next shot will be from the tee. If a player fails to make it inbounds after two attempts, their third attempt will be from the marked drop zone. From the drop zone and all other lies, normal OB relief applies.
Hole 20: On/Over Path is OB. In/Over creek is OB.
Hole 21: On/Over Path is OB. In/Over creek is OB. Mando at tree with ribbon on it. Discs must pass to left of tree. Drop Zone is Marked.
