I dont know about you guys but i would have SIUC at the top of this bottom list.  Absoulety no thought what so ever put into the design and construction of this course.  Its as if they just drove around in a truck and threw the baskets out and that is where they will lie.  The only thing nice about are the baskets, but other than that it sucks.  I highly recomend not playing this course.

The disc golf club down here is non-exisent.  Going to try to talk to some people to see what needs to be done to start on up.  Maybe this will help a bit.

I always call this the throwing the baskets out of a helicopter design method. Ironically, Bruce and I looked at some park property on Sunday that you could design a nice 9 hole course just by throwing the baskets out of a helicopter.

I didnt think SIUC had terrible holes, but the flow of the course was awful.  There were way too many holes where you shot blindly into walking paths.  I think there was even one instance where the basket for one hole was right in the middle of the fairway of another hole.  Thats dumb.

the long tees i helped create for Lohman Park were decent.  they used to be marked, but i'm sure they aren't anymore.  they took quality shots to get deuces.

this was obviously Pre- Frolfing illini.  too bad u weren't yet in existence when me and nick rapp were there.

SIUC's course isn't that bad, it does have some issues being in a high traffic area during school hours. But at least there is a course down here. The course is in one of the good looking parts of the campus right next to the lake. Going to school here it's nice to have a course near by.  The second closest is Effingham or St. Louis.  They used to have two courses on campus but they took the one next to the rec. center out because they were expanding the rec. center.  There used to be a club, but it was poorly run, first by a guy named Nate, then by a guy named Brandon who just gave up, there may be some money still in the club account for someone to start up a new club.

They are probably the same ones that we used to play.  There are 5 Total sets of tees at that course now.  The regular marked ones, Mid, Long, and the Red and Blue backwards tees.  The Mid tees are usually pretty well dug into the ground and easy to find.  Only people that play there a lot know where the pro tees are, they arent marked at all.  The Red and Blue ones are on the club website.

i remember hole 8 from the hard tee being really tight.  i used to try to skip off that white shed and let it slide toward the basket.  i think it was also harder cuz of the kids that would try to swoop my disc over there every time i threw

Yea, 8 from the longer tee is up on the little hill that leads up to the apartment buildings.  Instead of just having a tunnel shot through the trees you have to go a good 50 feet before you get into the trees at all, and there is a low ceiling since you are starting higher.  Plus you are throwing with some really awkward footing, being on top of a small mound.

i think that was what we played as the middle tee.  the hard tee was to the left in the woods and there wasn't really much of a gap to throw through.

I played Lohman yesterday.  Worst course design I have seen yet.  If anybody still knows the alternates, let me know.  My buddies and I just made up are own so we could actually take out a driver.

fathergod

It might be bad now but just give it a few.  Once the students start getting into it and forming leagues, the more the school will most likely listen.  Perfect example in great courses are Parkside in Wisconsin.

To be honest, I see nothing wrong with courses that could use some work.  Its a COURSE and its better than nothing.
It would be really awesome if the PDGA had an active role in course design.   Something like what the PGA does.

My top 5 worst 18 Holers in Illinois
1. Rock Falls--Nims Park
2. Olney--Kiwanis Rotary Park DGC
3. Antioch--Tim Osmond Sports Complex
4. Kirkland--Pioneer Park
5. Bartlett--Sunrise Park
The only 3 18+ hole courses in Illinois I have not played are Rock Island, Dallas City, and Quincy.

I'll add the top 5 bad 9 holers. That is going to take some thinking  :o

That would be great, I don't know how soon I can get back out there with classes starting and no car, but I will PM you next time I head that way.

funny to see everyone ragging on Lohmann.  yeah, it's a horrid course, but I spent 6 years calling it "home", and now that I live in Oak Park (no courses within 20 minutes, and no GOOD courses less than an hour away), I definitely miss having Lohmann to practice and work on the short game!

I was one of the first 5-6 people on the Frolfing Illini, we had one hell of a time playing leagues out there, in all manner of configurations.  Mike's right, the backwards 18 was MUCH more challenging (Even was a good score back then).  I think by the end of it, we figured about 10 different ways to play that course.

The link for Frolfing Illini no longer works.  Does anybody know if this group still exists?  I am really looking into getting into some league play with other students here, but I don't really know where to look. Thanks in advance.

i am surprised no one was at quad day (  have not got the update on how fun that was yet )

I plan on being down and available to play around  3  on Sunday  (  apparently taking kid to both lunch and dinner - I thought dorm food was better now a days  )  and will have materials to mark the tees or  create new ones and mark those )

Shore Acres in Chillicothe( 20 minutes North of Peoria ) is a waste of time. 9 holes, with 1 over 320' but is a very easy 2. With a Roc and Putter I finished -7. I guess good for the Juniors, or maybe Grandmasters, but every other division would or should shoot lights out on this course.
