I thought I'd copy these posts and start a new thread over here.

Austin seems to be a disc golf mecca of sorts. There's an actual disc golf country club called Twin Parks with 2 courses (one lit by solar), a restaurant, a mountain bike course, a paintball course, outdoor family yoga classes, and more.
Then there's Moody's, San Saba/Circle R, Lago Vista Disc Golf Resort, and about 10 "regular" courses.

I won't have time for a job!  :)

QuoteA few years ago in a nationwide Best Places to Live kind of survey they asked the question, "What is your favorite leisure time activity?" as an open ended, fill in the blank kind of question.  In Austin the #2 answer was disc golf.  It was the only city where disc golf made the list.  It was so unusual, in their press releases touting the book, the authors mentioned it and explained what disc golf is.

Austin is Disc Golf USA.

I've played Bartholomew, Pease, and Circle R. I enjoyed them all. I wished that I had more time at Pease, but I had to catch my flight home. They tell me that Bartholomew is not a really well regarded course but I found it to be quite enjoyable. We couldn't play one section of it because of flooding the day before, but it is still a solid course. Circle R reminded me of Kensington but with Texas plants and trees. Challenging, but playable even at my level. I also made a couple of out of mind shots on that course that are still really memorable. I loved the river that runs thru Pease Park with the large rocks. I liked the capital building hole. I could have done without the holes that run right along the street. We didn't have time to play the whole course because of my flight, but we still played most of it. Very enjoyable course overall.

Ok this isn't an Austin course, but it is in Texas outside of San Antonio in a city called Universal City. The course was called Universal City Park. It was very good and I liked it. Here's a link to the PDGA info site:

Universal City Park

This is the only Texas park that I went to, but if all of the courses in Texas were this good, then I'd move to Texas!

I played a couple of Courses in Austin, from what I can remember they were great. This is going back to Summer 1993. Im sure things have changed...Like do they still have Bars that serve Grain Alcohol in Slurpee Machines ?

I enjoyed most of the courses in Austin when I was there...  Make sure that you go to Shaggy's for a Sunday breakfast...  It is a reggae bar that has a Sunday spiritual jam session with a breakfast...  good times..

Shaggy's sounds fabulous!

I cannot wait to play at Lago Vista and Twin Parks CC. They seem like paradise even moreso that Stevens Point. The Twin Parks CC has 2 courses, both with 18 holes and at least 2 tee and 2 pin placements per hole. One course features solar lighting. There is also mountain biking, hiking, a restaurant, a pro shop, and outdoor family yoga. How cool is that?

There are also some smaller 9-holers, believe it or not. One, called Bagdad, will probably be the closest one to our new home. It looks small, open, and dusty - but only a few blocks away from the elementry school that my youngest son may be attending.

There are a half dozen clubs within two hours of Austin. It seems like every course has its own club. Bizarre.  However, as I begin to make friends in Texas prior to relocation, many have heard of DISContinuum or have visited the website.  We should all be proud that this little club has gotten noticed nationally.

Although I really anticipate playing disc golf year-round, I will miss the frozen globs of snot that swing out of my nose when trying to drive 300 ft. with my gloves on. And with the predicted temperatures for the rest of December, I'm probably stuck with BagTag #54.  I will miss the way the chains freeze up and act as a barrier instead of a catching device.  I will miss shovelling and salting the teepads at Bevier. I will miss the way a disc skips better on frozen ground. I will miss finding frozen, cracked Cyclones at Adler in January.  I'll miss hand warmers that turn your hands black.

Yeah right.  :)

Between June 10th and June 13th, after the kids get out of school.
But we'll be taking a few trips down there in February, April, and May.
I'm trying to make one trip coincide with one of Chris Himing's Texas 10 Series events to see what they're like.
