This came up on the Bowling Green thread at pdga.com today.  This am player took a disc instead of cash while competing in a pro division and the other ams wanted to know if that made him a pro.

Under the 2005 rules that would have made him a pro.

That rule was abolished in the new rules and replaced with a standards document.  The standards document states that a player becomes a pro if he registers as a pro or takes prize money in a pro division.  The standards document omits the language of becoming a pro by taking prizes in lieu of cash in a pro division.

I suspect that the rules thread will heat up pretty quickly and the standards document will be amended the next time the Board meets, but who knows.  Maybe this was intended and just not communicated.  They don't tell us much anymore.

Wow Bag city here I come!!  Just kidding hehe.  Bruce will you still be going to Am Worlds?  I'm sure you can get on the wait list.

I'm am for life so it does not matter much to me.  I only play pro if it is cheap and I sold some discs the day before!

But if the rule change holds, it could work for Michler, Serge and some of our other top advanced players if they are paying attention to who is there for open pro at some of our tournaments.  It could work KVN playing pro master if he is not going to go pro on last cash.  It could work for a lot of players.
