The Illinois Disc Golf Tour is here!

It's easy to participate:
-Be a PDGA member.
-Play Illinois PDGA tournaments.
-Win an Illinois Disc Golf Tour Obelisk.
-There is no fee and you do not need to sign up!
-Check www.idgtour.com for standings throughout the year.

Here are the rules:
-You MUST be a PDGA member to qualify.
-Play as many Illinois PDGA tournaments as you can.
-Men earn 10 points for each event played plus 1 point for every player they beat in their division.
-Women earn 10 points for each event played plus 1 point for every woman that they beat at the event (split day events will count both days' women players including herself if she plays both days).
-The player with the most points in their division at the end of the year wins an Illinois Disc Golf Tour Championship obelisk with their name engraved on it. Obelisks will be distributed in early 2007.
-Only one competition obelisk will be awarded to any player in one year. If a player wins in more than one divison (ie Advanced and Advanced Masters), the player with the second most points in the smaller division will win.

Tie Breakers:
1] Most Illinois events played in the year
2] Most wins
3] Head to head results
4] Disc flip

The following divisions will be offered initially:
*Pro Men
*Advanced Men
*Intermediate Men
*Recreational Men
*All Women

-The points for players playing in divisions that don't have an obelisk will be applied to the divisions offered. So a player earning points in Pro Masters will have their points applied to Pro. Advanced Masters points will be applied to Advanced or Intermediate, etc.

-Player points will be applied to the division that the player is eligible for at the end of the year based on rating. If a player plays 2 events in Recreational, 3 events in Intermediate and 2 in Advanced and their rating is 914 at the end of the year, then all their points will be applied to the Intermediate division. Amateurs who earn points playing pro will have those points applied to the appropriate amateur division. Pros that play amateur will have their points applied to the pro division.

-No points are earned at PDGA Majors in Illinois (currently only Women's USDGC).

Want another division added?
You can sponsor a division for the low, low price of just $25!!

An obelisk for the Illinois Disc Golf Player of the Year will also be awarded. The obelisk will be awarded to the Illinois disc golfer that best embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and achievement.

Please contact Jon Brakel to sponsor an obelisk or to nominate someone for the Illinois Disc Golf Player of the Year.

so, any sanctioned illinois tournament is fair game?
Don't forget your towel!

So a woman get points off every woman she beats, regardless of what division she plays, so like Marie or Kelsey playing Men's Rec will get points off Int and Rec women?

If a sponsor steps up for Am Master, how will points be calculated?  Will and Advanced Master playing Advanced get points off Advanced Masters he beats, or does he have to play Advanced Master to get Advanced Master points?  Or is it the sponsor's choice?  ;D

Yes on the women.

My intention on the Masters (if it gets sponsored) would be that they can play any division that they want to and are entitled to play and they earn points based on the division that they play but if they are masters eligible then their points would be applied to Masters. I don't want to hold people down (just to win an obelisk) if they want to play up. However, I would listen to the sponsor and as long as it wasn't something too weird would probably go with what they want.

One modification to that. Points will not be awarded for PDGA Majors in Illinois (currently only the WUSDGC).

Note, I added another rule to the top post and added tie breakers.

I've had a few inquiries lately on the IDGT. All systems are go and the elves and I are checking points totals even as I type this. I appologize that I have not been updating the IDGT site during the year like I promised. I had Tyler working on the spread sheet but I told him that the IOS points came first since I won't be handing out the obs until 2007. I also figured that this would be a building year for next year but since I'm not the State Coordinator and Brett is planning on doing something for a state wide tour this is just going to be a one shot deal and the need to build momentum wasn't as important anymore. I would be happy to work with Brett on his Tour ideas and if he likes anything that I have done for the IDGT he is more than welcome to use whatever he wants, but I don't plan on running a competing IDGT vs. Brett's tour plans. That would be counterproductive to both of our goals.

The one thing that I plan on continuing to offer is an Illinois Player of the Year Obelisk and I am asking again for nominations. I have a few ideas myself but I'd like to hear from players that have had more exposure to different players and areas in the state. "The obelisk will be awarded to the Illinois disc golfer that best embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and achievement." There are many people that should be nominated. I'd like to hear who you think should be on that list.

So, back to the IDGT and points. I'm not planning on updating the points publically at this point. People could figure them out for themselves but I think since they haven't been published yet then I might as well keep it unpublished until the obelisks are given out. Maybe some people will be surprised!

Hands down Steve Slater deserves this award.

I figure I should expand on this since many might not know. Steve is doing something that no one has ever done before. He is going to break Feldberg's record of sanctioned tournaments played in 1 year. Dave Feldberg played 48. I believe Steve is around 45 or 46 right now and will probably go over 50 by the end of the year. He is also going to win the PDGA points race for amateurs.

slater is a good choice.  rob strasser also seems like a good guy who does things for disc golf and he has had a breakthrough type year and has become one of IL's elite players.

Being new to the game, I don't know much about the people mentioned or who has won this award in the past.  It seems to me that Frank Grimes deserves consideration both for his recent World Championship as well as his truly unbelievable contribution to disc golf with the Channahon course.

Mukey

Yeah, Frankie & Rob are both good guys, but I didn't know Slater was gonna break Feldberg's record! That's freakin amazing! I'd vote Slater...

tjdub42

Both Slater & Frank immediately come to mind.  Slater skipped ONE weekend in six months!  Frank has his world title, has played in 5 different divisions, and is the nicest guy I played with all year.

Chase Roberts in Moline has also done a lot this year, hosting two new events and opening a disc golf store.

Slater will get the PDGA tour obelisk. Isn't that a way bigger deal than the Illinois Disc Golfer of the Year? I'm not saying anything about what I'm thinking, I just would like to hear what you guys are thinking. If you won the points tour obelisk would it mean anything to win the Illinois award for doing the same thing? It might...might not. Just curious.

I don't think what other awards somebody might win should have any bearing on who wins this particular award.  Should IL not recognize somebody's accomplishments just because the PDGA already did?

I agree, one should not have any influence on the other.  But I still think that there are some other very worthy candidates to consider along with Steve.

How about online nomitations for candidates followed by a vote for the winner, again online?

I'll take nominations from anyone until the end of the year. I wouldn't do an online vote because the Disc Golfer of the Year Obelisk is to award "...the Illinois disc golfer that best embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and achievement." and not a popularity contest. This is the kind of award that could go to someone that not everyone knows.

I am currently ironing out the details on how to continue the Disc Golfer of the Year Obelisk award and I think the best way is to have a small committee that could include the past winner(s) to review the nominations.

At last I heard, he had 49 under his belt.

I hope that because the scores got posted for IL State and Channahon, Steve's still in the running for breaking the record.  To date, neither event has been submitted to the PDGA, so technically they are not official.   ???
