Thanks all for posting flyers. Can anyone do some e-mailing? Let me know if you have a list of e-mail addresses of people who have attended past events or other disc golf lists.

Hey guys cant wait for the ice bowl, Jon please tell me we will have these available to purchase.

I just ordered the merch for the Ice Bowl and I did order a few of these. I will also bring an order form to the next meeting, and if anyone wants to order extra stuff, we can make a special order. I don't know if anyone is interested in any of the Ice Bowl 2003 clothing, but I only ordered discs, trophies and mini discs for the tournament. So, if you want any of the other stuff we can order it. My experience with ordering clothing for tournaments is that its hit or miss and I didn't want us to get stuck with a bunch of left over merch.

My above post may not have been clear. What I mean is that if you want something, pay the club and I'll order. When it comes in, I'll give it to you.

What is Shadow Doubles and Modified Best Shot

I'm going to post the rules soon. Maybe I'll get Bruce to e-mail me his copy of the rules. Shadow doubles is a game that I invented (I just never wrote the rules down!) and is played at Club Kensington and was used in the Shadow doubles event that I assistant TD'd at (hence people started calling it shadow doubles).

Cool, Pat!  Check with Jon, but I'd say 3 tables should do it.  Maybe 10 chairs?

That should be fine.

See why I waited for Bruce? It would have taken me at least 12 sentences to describe the rules.

I am fine with anyone that wants to do something extra, ie raffle, ctp, etc. I would ask for some help in actually running the extras, but all extras will be welcome.

I will run the event following all current PDGA rules. In that the PDGA rules do not cover doubles, there will be some interpretations made. If someone makes a throw that they are not entitled to make, it will be treated as a practice throw per PDGA rules. If someone throws from the wrong lie, that would also be treated the same as throwing from the wrong lie according to PDGA rules. If someone were to throw from the wrong lie intentionally, I would treat that as unsportsman conduct. It would be impossible to answer all of the hypothetical situations before the round begins except to say that I will apply PDGA singles rules as logically as I can to this doubles event and as TD of the event I will be prepared to rule on any disputes. Play the hole both ways if your group cannot come to a decision and then ask the TD after the round.

Jon,

I now have 9 small clip boards #'d 1 thru 9. I also picked up a box of 144ct golf pencils if you want to use them for the Ice Bowl.

1 quick question. This is not a bring you own partner event. What happens if there are an odd # of people that show up?

THANKS! and THANKS! I was going to head to Office Depot to pick up pencils and clip boards tonight. That's a trip I don't have to make now!

There are a couple of people who have said they'd be willing to be "bubble boy"--that is play if there are an odd #, thereby making it even and to not play if there are an even # of people.

Brett,

Can you get the pencils and clip boards to someone who will be at the Ice Bowl first thing in the morning? Let me know if I need to drive up to your place and pick them up this week.

Paul told me yesterday that he will not play if it is this cold. His med condition just won't allow it. So he has volunteered to man tables for a few hours.

So, I guess that makes me bubble boy?

Jim,

Actually I don't want to play this time since it is the first time I am running an event here. But that means that I don't really want to be bubble boy either, because then there's a fifty-fifty possibility that I will play.

But I do have a plan that will allow "bubble boy" to participate in the event and have some fun and maybe even win something even if he doesn't get to be on a team.

Any volunteers? I'll ask for a volunteer at the event if needed.

And we will be playing all holes, all tees.

I bought a bunch of coke, diet coke and sprite (eight, 2-liter bottles) and a bunch of plastic cups. Can anyone bring a big cooler and ice? Otherwise, we'll just have to put them in a pile of snow. : )

Jim asked me the other day if I was excited about the Ice Bowl. And I told him as much as I get excited about anything, yes I am. But I don't really get excited about much. However, I just had a twinge of excitement go thru me. Thought I'd share. It tired me out. I'm going to bed now.

Someone above asked why the guy gets to drive after the team took his drive on two consecutive holes:

He gets to drive due to the historical origin of the rule.  The game was invented by Mark Ellis and was played at the Doubles event before the 1999 Great Lakes Open.  Everyone wanted to throw every hole for the practice so Mark made it the rule that even though the throw could not be used, you could still throw it.  Then he added that if it was an ace, you could count it.

I can get as many tables as you want. Do you need chairs also?

pat

I am planning on getting there by 9 or so with the tables and chairs. Unless you need them earlier.

pat

Thanks for the offer Steve. I can get them myself.

drdye

Well, it doesnt look like I will be able to make it.  The guy that was supposed to work my shift at work just told me that he can no longer work.  I am going to ask a few more people, but it looks grim.  If nothing else, good luck everyone, and see you on sunday.

damonshort

are we playing tees 1-9 for all 3 rds or alternates?
thanks,
Damon
