Top notch/A tier course in the Chicago-land area in general.  I dont think the Joliet courses are up to it...  Maybe Mokena, but I still think it is too flat and would have made a better (or more challenging) 18 or 24 hole course than the current 27 hole setup.

Top notch/A tier course in Lake County.

My wish is more modest but more strident-- a competent 18 hole course in northern Cook County. Over 6 million people in Cook County and not one @"#& 18 hole course since the NIMBYs in Wilmette took down Gilsen years ago. AAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHH.

As i'm  working to get a championship calibur course installed it has nothing to do with the responsibilty of the ISC position. I did list the responsiblities in my statement with answers but the PDGA removed the responsibilities. They are posted below.

STATE AND PROVINCE COORDINATORS

The State and Provincial Coordinators represent more than 50 key PDGA volunteer positions. Each year 50% of US State and Canadian Province Coordinators are elected. Each member's on-line ballot will only display the Coordinator race for their home state or province. If your state or province is not included in the list below, it will be on the election ballot next year.

Here is the list of responsibilities for the SC position:

- Represent the PDGA in a positive light to members, clubs, agencies, and communities in their state or province.

- Work with Tournament Directors and clubs within their state or province and in adjoining areas to schedule PDGA Tour and other disc golf events. Serve as state/provincial liaison to the PDGA Tour Manager, in setting the Tour schedule and in addressing and resolving Tour event issues.

- Collect information, either personally or by delegating to individuals or clubs, for the PDGA Course Directory and the Course Evaluation system.

- Promote PDGA memberships, and PDGA programs such as the Affiliate Clubs program, tournament sanctioning, Disc Golf Foundation, and EDGE to the members and potential members in their state or province.

- Provide feedback on the annual Tour Standards to the PDGA Tour Manager

- Coordinate state qualification for events such as the USDGC, USADGC, and other qualified-entry tournaments;

- Vote for and recommend candidates for select annual PDGA Awards

- Other duties as determined by the SCs, PDGA Board and staff

Well then I would like to see the Illinois USDGC qualifier go to the winner of the Open division at the IL State Championships, or some other very large tournament in Illinois.  Makes the most sense to me.

what about a huge revolving illinois tournament, it could be named the 'midwest open' or something, and it would go to courses and clubs who have the infastructure to mae it happen.  get every club swinging their merchandise there and supporting it, as well as covering the costs of the tournament.  if it projects an image of statewide inclusiveness then i think it could be a massive event for all of the surrounding areas.

Sounds fantastic! I wish anyone luck who wants to try and organize this. What does this have to do with the ISC position?

it would just be expanding on the responcibilites - the ISC would get the candidates together, figue out how it would be run, who gets it, etc... it could turn into a huge event that not one club would be running, but something that the whole state would have a stake in.

It's an interesting concept. Getting people to buy into the concept would be a difficult task and it's not a task that i'd be interested in so if you are looking for that to happen, plese don't vote for me :munky2:

i think that the qc guys would be on baord, rockford would be a go, and i imagine that joliet and perioa would want their courses represented too.  in fact, i cant imagine anybody not wanting this if they already are doing tournaments.  it gives all clubs a chance to swing their plastic, represent their club, and above all it would get illinois to where iowa and wisconsin have been for years.

Every TD likes to run their tourneys in their own way.  This would be a huge logistical nightmare and put a lot of responsibility on one person who really couldn't control the outcome of the tournament experience.  I don't know of anyone who would want to step up and try and run something like this.

Illinois does not have a USDGC qualifier to give away. Each State or Regional coordinator has an exemption to give away. Wilbur used to give it to the winner of the Illinois State Championship and those winners never took advantage of it. Last year I ran an open event to anyone that was interested in going. Five people showed up to try to win it. I think that is about right. There are probably about 5 people in Illinois that can give up the week and spend a thousand dollars or two to make the trip and play the USDGC. If you give the USDGC exemption to the winner of a regular tournament, you may have to go pretty deep until you find someone who will use the exemption. If you want the exemption to be used, it seems like a better plan to have a get together with the people who really want the exemption. This year I am considering having the Peoria Open be the USDGC exemption giveaway. But I will probably require the players to give their intent to play for it so that I know going into the event who is ready and willing to use it.

The exemption is what I meant, I just used the wrong word.

One way to only offer it to people who are serious about going is to charge a small fee to compete for it.  Then if the player gets in his entry fee on time, he also gets the accumulated fees.  I'm thinking $10 would keep out the non-serious and build a small nest egg for the winner.

Also, you'll get more players going for it if it is offered to all divisions that play the same tees as open.  If you only offer it to players in the open division, you might get four or five takers.  Otherwise you could get as many as six!   ;D
