yea i do that all the time.  Its usually just sour cream with some extra vegetables or something mashed up and added to it.  The spinach stuff is pretty good.

I like Thousand Isalnd dressing.  It makes every sandwich a Dandy sandwich.

This may be unAmerican but...

I find mayo to be vile.  Its the devil's seed. >:D  One shouldn't find a substitute but a completely different substance--mustard, ketchup, barbeque sauce, hot pepper sauce on anything, whatever.

This might be  Jewish thing--revulsion to mayo.  I worked in a deli and we had abbreviations for sandwiches ie:  CBR-corned beef rye   CBO-corned beef onion roll. CBG-corned beef goy (corned beef on white with mayo)

YUCK!

that would be more unBritish than anything else, would it not?  I haven't been to England, but I've been informed that they use mayo over there like we use ketchup... mayo on fries is quite common I've been told.

Unless I was just talking to a mayo revolutionist trying to take over the world?

miracle whip is all you need.  It's a salad dressing, a sandwich spread, and a conveyor of tangy zip.  Most delicious!
