Taking DNF or tanking a round so it doesn't count on your rating

Ok, this has come up a few times this year...

Saw someone I know on Saturday not play the last hole & took a DNF. I can only assume that was to "protect" that person's rating. WHY? Even if your rating drops you can always play up, so besides "braggin" rights to your current rating I can't see the advantage of this. Your rating IS your ability vs. the course. Look at my rating & you'll see I've been dropping all year.  I still won't play Rec even if my rating falls low enough in September and I would only assume that someone whos been playing Advanced would keep playing Advanced even if their rating dropped a bit below 915.

I just think it's kinda vain. Who cares what your rating is? If you're that worried about it you should just play un-sanctioned events.

Whether it is vanity, insecurity, immaturity or whatever, it certainly does not reflect well on the player.  I noticed that he did that.  I wanted to make sure that he did not break a bone or pass out or something.

Dont give the guy too hard of a time. If it wasn't for him I would have finished DFL.

JK. As far as I am concerned I did finish DFL and no one can take that away from me.

You would have to drag my corpse off the course before I would not finish.
