Hi, all Chicago and Illinois golfers.  I just wanted to let everyone know Decatur disc golfers are working and presenting a project to construct a course in the Decatur Illinois.  If you haven't been to Decatur it has the most public parks of any county in Illinois.  We have chosen the park and my friend Marc has started a website, so check it out and fill out the petition.  This is only the first baby step but hopefully with the support of other Illinois disc golf members we can get something started.
I have been playing golf for 6 years now, I started in Illinois and have recently moved back to Chicago and wanted to help them try to get something started in Decatur.  Check it out and post any comments or thoughts.

Oh man. Jut brought back some serious memories. Nothing like waking up after a long night in Mills Hall with no AC. I miss the good West winds that brings the great smells of ADM across campus. The many road trips to UofI, Eastern, Peoria, Bloomington, & Springfield. Just can't beat that Millikin University education.

Fairview is a sweet park & would be great for disc golf. Some nice elevation and I remember some minor water in the park. Used to run and ride my bike thru there all the time. Not a place to be late at night. Lots of scary dudes and some major brokeback going on.

I haven't been to Decatur since I graduated. Maybe i'll have to make a road trip if this course goes in. Thanks for the info!

Hi, thanks for signing the petition..Pass on the info !! I think we will use the front section of the park for a 9 hole course.  If it goes well, which I really think it will we will expand for another nine in the back of the park.  I'm not from Decatur but my fiance is and her family loves disc golf and think it only makes sense to get something in this town.  I will keep you guys posted on the progress.

a course there would be great
i travel to tower hill, il 3-4 times a year

i have played effingham, carlye, springfield and lynchfield

but i think decauter would be a great addition to the area

i still think lake shebyville by the dam would be a great area to set up  a course but
when im in the area im usually short on time

I'm going to be checking this course out sometime this week, any advise?

I'd print a map. Not too hard to follow but a few blind holes. The last time I was there the parking lot was done and hole #1 would have been hard to find.

Thanks, I'm going to go check it out today. Chance of rain all day, but I'm already down here and today is my only "free" day.

Thanks, the map came in handy and saved me some time. The course was just ok. A few holes seemed like they were on top of each other, and really packed in there. Holes 11-13 seemed very repetitive, I basically thew the same shot on each of them for easy 2's. The course lacks any true par 4's or 5's which shouldn't be the case for a former ball golf couse. Changes in elevation is the only feature that makes this course stand out. For courses close to my parents house this is my best option. I like to pick a stand out hole when I play a new course, for Nelson Park it's hole 14.

I agree with your info on the course. It didn't utilize the potential of the land.
