Damon-the IO has registraton from 8-9AM.

And the Morning wave doesn't even have the awards until 1:15.

Another suggestion-What if we did two groups.  One morning group for those who want to play the Fish and one Afternoon group for those who don't. Someone from the morning group could call someone from the afternoon group with the scores and go from there.

JOsh

I've only been able to play in 4 Safari events so far this year but every one of them has been pretty much an all day thing.  If you incorporate travel time and playing time plus some time for a warm up round or a part of one at least, and if I am driving an hour and half or more for some of these events, I'd ilke to get more than one round in instead of wasting 3 hours of driving time for 2 hours of playing time.  I guess I'm just one of those people who feel that an event at 1pm is right in the middle of the day and it's tough to plan anything else before or after that due to the unknown end time of the safari. BUT like I said that is another topic for another day(or at least another thread)

JOsh

What about possibly splitting up into two groups?  Any ideas on that.  I mean it's clear we are not moving the Safari time because some people have conflicts.  Fine.  Understood.  I might not even play the stinking Fish open but I would like the opportunity if I do, so two groups would be a temp solution to the problem, I would think.

Josh, you're not getting bitter are you?

I just hear the club complain that not enough members are showing up to club events and we are often going to have different events that aren't planned over a year in advance, like the safari is, pop up so I don't understand really why the club wouldn't want to make it a possibility to get as many people at UWP as possible.  (Man that is one LONG run-on sentence!)   I just feel that there can be a little flexability. if it means that 4 or 5 people(and I'm just pulling that number from the sky as an example) don't show up to UWP for the safari, everyone loses.  I guess I'm a little more attached to this one because it is at UWP.  If it were at Joliet that weekend, I might just skip the Safari all together and head to Milwaukee but since it is right here, I'd like to do both.   I'm kinda biased because it is my home course and I think both events could be a lot of fun and to miss out on either one would be a shame.  And that is IF I even play the Fish.  I might just decide that I don't feel like shelling out the cash, but it's not just me interested in playing.

Registration, not tee-off.

The fact is it's still early.  Whether it be tee off at 9 or 10, it's still early and people make exceptions for tournies, that's all I'm saying.  And really nobody ever really said that we had to have it at 8:30 I'm sure we'd have enough time if we teed-off at 9:30-10:00.

Safari still happening?  Is it the same 5 people?  Whatever...  be one of the people who will say, "I should have went to that event and got my nipples pierced."

This is a new event that is most likely going to be the funnest wild wierd event of the year...screw safari, just about everyone else has.  Has the payout changed or is everyone still playing for the BIG prize?

That seems overly harsh Shawn. A lot of us are having fun playing the Safari. If the Safari isn't your kind of fun, that's fine, but doesn't seem like you need to slam those of us that are having fun with it.

Before we change the time let's get a show of hands of people who will be playing both. If anyone is, then lets consider it, but if people who are going to play the fish thing aren't going to the Safari no matter what time it is, then there's no reason to change it.

Since we don't have a concensus either way, I'd say we should keep the time the same. I have a conflict with that morning, so from a personal side I'd like to keep the time the same.

As for the Safari in general, I think the Safari was designed to be an all day event. Some of them are scheduled at courses that are 1 to 3 hours away. If we start at 1pm, then not only do you have time to get up there, but you have time to play a practice round and time at the end to play some more or check out another course. But we can discuss it for next year.

I don't like the idea of splitting into different groups. The people I play against should have to play in the same conditions as I do. A really early round is likely to have much less wind.

I'm game, anyone else want to join and make a 4-some?

I heard about this, but 2 problems:

1. I might be working

2. Safari that day (but Jay and Steve, go ahead!! ;)

Seems like there were heated discussions a few weeks/months ago about not messing with the Safari schedule, e.g. "there will always be conflicts", etc. etc. and the majority of posts were all for leaving the schedule and locations alone.

I'm not sure I can make it to Parkside that day anyhow, but 8:30 is not early only if you live within 20 minutes of the course.

Not everyone wants to play the Fish Open. If the Safari wasn't to be rescheduled before, why now?

...and now that I've read some of the posts in the last hour or so, in response to the survey:  Safari, if anything...

QuoteJOsh (08-06-2003 03:09 p.m.):

I want to be able to play both.  It seems like a bad idea to not switch times.  You are forcing people to make a choice to where you might lose some people playing instead of making sure you get everyone.  If I'm not mistaken, and there's a good chance I am, the argument about switching the Safari was regarding the date not the time.  Yeah 8:30 is early but no earlier than most tournaments

but you're forcing a different choice on those who may not be able to hit an 8:30 start (some of us have a long way to go). And name any other tournament where you've started at 8:30 ;)

Part of the logic was moving the Safari early so 'everyone' could go to the afternoon Wave or whatever it is. Why not just go to the *Morning* Wave and come down for the Safari in the afternoon? It seems just as feasible either way to me.

Perhaps if we moved the Safari to 8:30AM at Parkside we could all head up for the Afternoon Wave of The Torque Center Fish Fly Open?

Just a thought.

Before anyone flames me, hear me out.

[thread drift]

If we don't move it, people competing in the Safari will still need to make a choice and will be disappointed if they go to one event but not the other.  But that is their choice.  If the start time is moved (with, what, 6 weeks advance notice?), they can play both if they want to go to the Frog Open Afternoon Wave.  And, if we don't move the time, we are going to be competing with casual players in the area and possibly players from Dretzka who aren't willing to pay $35 to play the Fish Open.  Anyway, like I said, it's just a thought.  [/thread drift]
