Please make a plan to go to the polls tomorrow.  Even though it's a mid-term/non-presidential election, it's still important to let your voice be heard by voting.  I'm not advocating one political persuasion or another, and I don't want to open the Pandora's box of heated political discussion.  Just exercise that right to vote!

I am so glad today is election day. Not because I get to vote (which has great meaning to me) but because those infernal campaign ads will finally end. Almost every ad tells you how rotton the other candidate is. Both parties have done this. The party sponsored ads (both Demublican and Repulicrat) have attacked the other party candidate and told you that your children will be mutants if you vote for that guy or gal. Its refreshing when I see the rare ad where the candidate tells me why they are so great and deserve my vote, speaking of which I am going to vote right now. Its great to be an American.

You shouldn't be so harsh on the candidates for constantly harping on how worthless their opponents are. Since they ALL say approximately the same thing about each other, it seems to me that they obviously know what they're talking about   ;D

I agree with you Dave, it's getting old really quick. It's pitiful and pathetic that no one seems to want to win by their own strengths instead of their opponents' supposed weaknesses. I will never donate a single dollar to anything political.

George Carlin hasn't voted since McGovern. He says if you dropped him out of a plane he'd probably land a little left of center but he doesn't care for the mundane political machinations. He supports the citizen's right to not vote AND to complain...I think I support that right also.

I have voted in every election (local and national) since I turned 18 but I'm not much of a believer in our democratic process. We really don't get to choose from the best candidates for any election that I've voted in. We get to choose between the two compromised politicians that the two major parties have chosen for us to select. Or we can place a protest vote. Libertarians usually get my vote, not because I'm big on Libertarians but just in case my vote were to actually count some day, I'd rather have no government than the crappy government that we have today. However, I think the Green Party will get my vote for Governor of Illinois this year (I'm voting after work) just because of the media hoopla about him being a Socialist 14 years ago. Is it really a big surprise that a Green Party candidate was a socialist 14 years ago? Next they'll tell us that Judy Baar Topinka was a human being 14 years ago!  ;D

I can understand the cynacism, especially with our gubenetorial race.  I voted for one of the major candidates because I think that candidate is better for my job but not with any passion.  However, there are a lot of races where there are pretty big differences between the candidates.  Unfortunately, those are often the races where the national parties are spending gobs of dough on the attack ads.   Yet, voters have a real choice.  Even where the choice is between a slice of bread with seeds or without seeds I still feel a duty to vote.  I'm with Spuds on this one.  One problem with the proces is that anybody in their right mind would never want to run for office.  Who would want to put up with this garbage?  Candidates who are willing to deal with the scrutiny, the questions, the time spent raising money, the handlers and manipulators must have a screw loose.  That being said we all prefer some of them over the others.  Make a choice.  Get out and vote.  Once you vote you are now entitled to complain.  Did they lie to us?  Did they keep their promises?  Did they do pretty much what we expected of them?  If you voted, you can complain.  Also, some issues really do get aired out. Are you for or against the Iraq war?  Many of the races have the war as a backdrop.  Your vote means something.  You wanna tell them all you think they are full of[whatever gross substance you chose] vote for an alternative candidate. Pick up the preverbial disc and throw the thing in the direction you want it to fly.

how late are the polls generally open?  I was going to go in to vote this morning, but got a late start to the day and decided to try to go this evening (probably when everyone else is going too!)

I always vote on the way to work.  It is raining here, all day, so maybe we'll get a bazillionaire governor instead of a canadian governor.  Allegedly the canadians don't vote so much when it rains.  All of the rest of the races were pretty much a lock in my district.
