Play for tags for fun. If you decline, you're a wuss. Winner gets the lower numbered tag.

Are challenges automatic against club members in your group in a tournament?  Against all club members in the field in a tournament?

Dan Michler

For tournaments, sometimes club members will get together afterwards and exchange tags, sometimes not.  Its just a matter of somebody taking the initiative to get it together.  I will always trade tags if somebody wants to, but I usually don't care enough to go around asking people to do it.

depending on the tournament, if there is a mass collection of tags ahead of time (like at pretty much every IOS in 2006) then the tags get distributed in the afternoon based on total score. if there is no mass challenge then the generally accepted rule is that on card challenges are obligatory. cross card challenges are fine too, like amongst friends, but on card challenges must be settled first.

non tournament play tag challenges are optional. the true spirit of casual tag rounds is to make your non tournament rounds worth something and to give incentive to play your best game all the time.

I also mentioned this on the Cracked Plastic thread responding to Tenny Schimo Fan:

Tags being in play at any non-IOS tournament will take some initiative from someone to either collect them or talk to other club members before playing to let them know to meet at the end to exchange tags. On-card challenges are obligatory and shouldn't be that hard to complete. I will collect tags during the lower days of the IOS that I play. Other tournaments I don't worry about it as much. During the IOS it (I hope) helps boost memberships to collect them upfront so everyone who comes by the Merch/Scorers table can see what they're missing. (the message board, club discounts, FREE club tourney, etc.)

Had some extra blanks for another job and decided to whip 2nd and 3rd up.  Glass used isnt the square-est but better than nothing right?

Brett or whomever is the right person to ask, I threw in my tag at IOS #1, but had to leave early and never reclaimed up a tag.  Can I pick up the bottom tag in Rockford on Saturday and go from there?  Thanks.

Buy a membership and you get a numbered bag tag. Challenge someone else or at some events there are organized group challenges. Best score of the challenge gets the lowest number, next best gets second lowest number, etc.

If you do play a lot of tournaments, I recommend doing both. As there is a $5 fee for non-PDGA members to play sanctioned tournaments, if you play 5 or 6 a year, you pay for the fees by becoming a member of the PDGA.
