Summer Multi-Course Tournament

I am looking to set-up a multi-course tournament at the end of June, and would like some feedback regarding this. 

It will be a: "You can only use 1 disc at each course.  And, you may use a different disc at each of the 5 courses."  type of tournament.

The courses I had in mind using were:

Margreth Riemer Reservoir = Palatine
Willow Stream Park = Buffalo Grove
Fink Park = Highland Park
Cunniff Park = Highland Park
Leo Leathers Park = Mundelein

Since it is a One-Disc tournament, I want your feedback on if it should be a singles or Random Draw "Best Shot" Doubles Tournament.  If it is a Doubles Tournament, there would be only one division, with a player from the upper pool teamed up with a player from the lower pool.

The field would max out at 36 players, and the payouts would be cash.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Doubles could be interesting.  One person would bring a putter or slow midrange, and the other person would have a driver.  That would be the only way to do it and shoot well, really.  Could be fun.

That's an interesting thought with the doubles combination.  I didn't think about that.  This would even allow you to open up the courses that you could go to and play.  Instead of Leo Leathers where's it's mostly pitch and putt and duck, you could almost create the case for Adler instead and make things *really* interesting.

Just my .02, but I can go play doubles any time I want.  We haven't, however, had any one disc tournies that I know of for a while.  I would definitely make an effort to play in a singles one disc event.  I also don't think that making it one disc restricts your course selection.  If you can throw your roc or buzz 250' accurately, that means 3's are reasonable on anything 500-530 and in.  I play Adler with one disc all the time and while there are two holes I just can't deuce, I'v birdied everything else and 3'd the other two many times with just a buzzz.

So, it sounds like a singles event would work out better than a doubles tournament.

What would be good courses to use for this event.  I don't players driving too far from point A to point E.  A lot of courses in lake county are closer than the ones in cook.  I know Palatine would be a good course for this event.

Hmm, maybe palatine, the two in buffalo grove and then the two in highland park?  It's 8 miles in between palatine and the willow stream course, just a mile or so to the other buffalo grove course (maybe 2 miles? I didn't pull it up), and then it's about 10 miles to the two highland park courses (and they are blocks within each other).

It's encouraging to see people interested in playing a singles event like this.  It's also nice to try out something different every now and then too.

One other option would be to do a single disc tournament just at one course, but you can change your disc between rounds?  Just tossing out options.

I dont think you want to make them too far apart.  I would suggest either Grayslake-Libertyville-Mundelein-Gurnee, or Buffalo Grove(both)-Palatine-Elk Grove.  Would probably be cool to let people use a different disc at each course.  I like the further north option better, the courses are definitely higher quality IMO.

So here's what I'm thinking:

We start at Libertyville....then go to Mundelein.....lunch break....head over to Grayslake....and, finish off at Gurnee.

Is Gurnee going to have holes 8 & 9 installed by June?

Or, the other option could be the reverse order:

Start at Gurnee.......head over to Grayslake...lunch break.....meet back at Mundelein........and, finish off at Libertyville since they have the pavillion area.

I figure with Mundelein, too many holes cross each other, and at Grayslake, holes 6 & 7 are the only 2 to worry about intersecting one another.  So, I figure that we will throw Mundelein out, and only have 3 courses:

Gurnee
Grayslake
Libertyville

Just trying to put this together.  So, here's what I'm leaning towards:

3 courses, maybe 4, have 4 divisions:

Pro
Advanced
Intermediate
Rec

Limit it to 36 players each course. 

I am thinking about having each division start on a different course.  That would mean, I would need help in getting this off, and running smooth.  I am hoping to play this event, as well.  I am leaning towards a $12 entry fee, with all divisions playing for cash, since it is not sanctioned.  In addition to cash, 1st place in each division would also get a 2007 CFR Wraith. 

Feedback on this is strongly encouraged.  I am hoping to finalize this by the end of the month, with hopes of having many players out for this One-Disc per course Event.

It all sounds good to me.  I love the idea.

I think having each division on a different course could be a logistical headache for you and those running it, not to mention that everyone has to get back to one place at the end.  But if you can swing it, it will obviously make room for more people to play.

I haven't played Grayslake or Gurnee, so I can't say on the courses.

If I'm available I will almost certainly be there.

I like the idea of a one disc tournament.  Frankly, I do not plan on playing very many, if any, non-sanctioned tournaments during the summer.  However, a one disc might be a fun thing to do.  I think you will have a logistical problem with players on multiple courses.  You can't really have a headquarters for signup etc. You will have to have somebody recreate this at each course.  If you are limiting it to  36 players there is no reason to do this.  If you expect big numbers you could do this as you could get 36 on each course.  Its more fun to play on a full course than have the handful of players in your division as the only ones on the course.  I would say take the entire circus to each new location unless you expect more than 36 players.
