I am a Sox fan.  Ron Santo is a breathtakingly bad broadcaster who makes me ill at every broadcast.  That being said, he deserves to be in the Hall. Santo was a great defensive third baseman.  Brooks Robinson may be the only player I have seen who was better.  He won five gold gloves and was a nine time all-star.  He was a very good hitter with excellent power.  He had a career batting average of .277 with 342 home runs.  Today he  fell 5 votes short of election to the Hall of Fame.  Poor Ronnie got screwed again.    Perhaps, had he been elected, he could have retired from broadcasting.  Oh well, I feel for all Cub fans who have the double pain of Santo's rejection and having to hear him again all summer.

Wow, you're one of the first that I've heard to complain about Ron broadcasting.  I'm sure now that I say that others will come on and bash his style too.  He's no where near as good as Pat Hughes, but he makes the broadcasts so extremely entertaining.  I've heard him do play-by-play, and yeah... that was terrible.  But his overall love for the Cubs and style of commentary makes Pat Hughes and Ron Santo the best play-by-play duo I've heard in a LONG time.

I guess it's because I'm a Cubs fan or something because I can't stand listening to Ed Farmer and Chris Singleton (I think it's Chris isn't it?)  They both really annoy me to be honest.  I think it started back in either the '05 world series or at some point in 2006 when they were talking about the '05 world series about how they hated the away team's radio booth in Houston since it was right next to suite for Houston's GM.  I guess he would hit the wall with his fist (or so they presumed) whenever something bad happened for the Astros, so the White Sox guys thought it would be appropriate to start hitting the wall back.  Don't you think there would be a better way to approach something like that if it's annoying you? I'm not asking for an argument over what they did was right or wrong, but hearing them complain about it just bugged me.

Wayne Larrivee and Pat Hughes... 2 of my favorite broadcasters... even when Wayne did *choke* Bears games.

Hopefully Selig will change the veteran's committee to vote every year instead of every other year.  Maybe Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken will both vote for Ronnie :)

At this rate it will only take another 3 votes to get Ron in....

Just being brutally realistic...Santo has a pretty limited number of years left on this planet.  It will be a total travesty if they elect him after he's gone.  He should atleast get to enjoy it.  I don't think anybody has ever wanted it more than him.

As far as him deserving it, he is a borderline case as he had no MVP years, however I think his numbers are good enough.  Unfortunatley .277 and 342 don't look so good when you compare them to the inflated numbers of the last decade, but I think they were good enough the era he played in.

Cmon Pitner, Ronnie is brutal in the booth.  Everybody knows that, even Ronnie.  I will agree he adds entertainment value though.

even Santo himself has said that he doesn't have many years left and would like the chance to enjoy it while living.  So you're definitely right, Dan.  I hope they at least change the veteran's committee to vote yearly instead of every-other-year.  They should probably only include HOF'ers that played in the era that the player up for the HOF played in.  Then say... after 60 years the player on the veteran ticket has to come off if they are still on it.  I was listening to WGN radio tonight and they were talking about how the HOF needs another category... an "Ambassador" of the game.  Santo would fit perfectly into that.
