Disc Golf Live

This looks like a promising opportunity for a course maybe going in:

Nice news, indeed, for folks in the area.

:) its all good Joe. We've been working on the lake county forest preserve for about 18 months now. Good to finally see some positive first steps!

I sent a kind e-mail to these 4 board of commissioners that voted no to disc golf.

Again after all the discussion on the club members thread about the LCFPD this seems to the the only thing holding disc golf back. At every meeting this is all they talk about.

"Committee member Bob Sabonjian was the proposal's most vocal opponent Thursday. The Waukegan Democrat said such a course would serve only a small percentage of the county's population. He also felt it would open the door to requests for other sports fields."

They really have no idea how big the disc golf population is around here. What they dont' realize is that the local parks don't have the land to offer quality courses. As all of the local disc golf population knows our local courses are small and crammed into multiuse parks. We have one 18 hole course. What is more frustrating is that an18 hole course at Adler was cut to 9 holes partly because of the Des Plaines River Trail.

I just hope they educate themselves and realize disc golf is not like soccer and the other ball fields they are so worried about.

Disc Golf Live

Ignorance is bliss, so that's why so many politicos look happy all the time.

If folks in the Chicago area would like to help raise the profile of DG, here's a link to your local public access system.  (Chicago itself has another station that serves the whole city.):

I'm happy to send copies of DGL out at no charge if folks on your end will do the work and get the show onto the broadcast airwaves.  Or cablewaves, or however that works.

Its suprising how many folks catch my show here in my hometown of Ann Arbor.  When I tell folks around here I'm a disc golfer, many who don't otherwise know me often mention that they know about disc golf because they see it on TV.

If there's interest in promoting the game, the publicity from DGL is invaluable.  Ignorance is bliss, but the public can indeed be brought into the light if folks on your end are willing to make an effort.

Best to all,

I would love to help but just don't have the time. It would be great to see disc golf on tv.

Ah, yes.  I'm quite familiar with the over-worked, under-golfed position many of us are in.  In that case, perhaps you oculd make an effort to line up an entirely new volunteer or local player who isn't a big do-er yet.  This can be their way to help the greater DG community.  We both know the vast majority of folks just want to play a round of golf, and we both need to find more folks who want to take a role in the sport's future.  This is a good role for someone who maybe doesn't play/help tourneys, or who has a side interest in Video.  You know the player base; perhaps an announcement at league will help scare someone up.

Perhaps there are more folks out in the Chicago 'burbs who want to drum up some public awareness of DG.  Copies of the shows are free.
