If you have not signed up for this event and plan to play you better do so soon. Several of the divisions are full. There are 514 Ams and 214 Pros signed up. With just under a month i'd guess this event gets 1000+ players.

Going to be a great week. 514 AMS, WOW  :o

Good luck to all that are going. The newest edition of The Discgolfer has a Worlds Preview. There is a course( BLUE VALLEY ) being played, almost 11,000 feet.  WTF!? The advanced will play this at least once. It says this MIGHT be the longest disc golf course in the WORLD!! The course record is a -12 56, set by Steve Brinster in 2007, when a 66 was rated 996.

This was a nice touch by the Discontinuum Club last year and I am glad I was able to attend (albeit a little late).  Was there an answer given somewhere as to if this is going to happen again?

I know the week of Worlds is a very busy one and I know I go to Worlds to do business about as much as I go to play so I don't want to chime in with a specific night preference but if one happens I'd love to hear about it.  I think I've been a Discontinuum Club member since the inception of the club and I'm proud of that.

Thanks!

Is there going to be a club members pizza party this year?

CEValkyrie

We are not planning a paid dinner this year due to how far worlds is from home this year. We felt the past 2 years there has been a pretty big turnout from DISContinuum members due to location.

Wouldn't be too tough for all of us to get together one night for dinner. I nominate Dan Michler to set it all up.

Lauren,Chris Brenholtz, and myself are staying at The Sheraton Suites KC. There is another couple staying at the same hotel, but I don't know their names, but they always wear those maroon Innova hats.

I'll be camping in the southeast side of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area (say that 5 times fast haha) at one of the Jackson County Parks with by friend Henry Poth from Milwaukee.  I am super excited and can't wait!

Anyone remember when they had the pools up to see on PDGA?  I can't remember if they won't be up later next week or if they will be sooner then that.  I just want to see what order I play the courses, that may  determine what courses I practice on Sunday and Mon.  I plan on just walking Blue Valley during those times, I don't want to throw out my arm in practice with a course that long.

Thanks for the link. I know what pools I could potentially be in, K-N.  I just want to know what exact pool I'm in so I know what my schedule will be, haha as if that doesn't sound confusing.

I see Wiggins, Jr. and a couple other people rated over 970 are in the AM divison.  I hope it's just a mistake, especially when Wiggins is 983 rated. I don't expect his rating to drop that much in two days.

You can play Am with over a 970 rating as long as you have never accepted cash.

that just seems crazy to me. So theoretically someone could be 1000 rated, but never took cash, so they can still play in the ADV division? What's the point of ratings breaks among divisons?

The ratings breaks are for the amateur divisions and the 970 mark is only used for Pros who have taken cash but can still play in amateur events.

My personal opinion is nobody should be forced to play Pro and gamble a higher entry fee to try to win cash.  And definitely not at a 970 rating.  Look at the statistics.  970 golf isn't winning you much cash in the Open division.  And forget about playing the A-tier or Major events where you have to toss down 100-200 bucks for an entry fee and must average 1000+ golf to make the cash.  I see alot of guys go Pro who are around 950-970, and they go from playing 20+ events a year and having a blast, to 2 years later playing 5 events a year and suddenly the tournaments aren't so much fun anymore when you're losing 50 bucks every weekend.

If there was going to be a cutoff line where you can't play amateur any longer, I would make the cutoff at 1000.  Amateur disc golf is just about having fun and if 15 or 16 year old Dave Wiggins wants to play Advanced at Worlds to try and win a World Championship, why stop him?  Just cuz his rating is 988?  How do you know there isn't other guys in the field who are at a 990 skill level but just haven't played tournaments to prove it?  Making a cutoff for Amateur only encourages players wishing to compete for a Major title to avoid playing rated events beforehand.  Think about it if you were Dave.  You can pay 115 bucks and play Advanced with a good chance you'll win the Amateur World Championship before you turn Pro, giving you more widespread notoriety and a better chance of real sponsorship money in the future....or you can pay 215 bucks to play Open and probably battle to maybe make your money back if you shoot well and finish in the top 50-60.

As far as I'm concerned, let anybody play Advanced who wants to.  If Ken Climo decides he wants to move back down to Advanced, fantastic!  Obviously he's not going to do that because he'll be losing out on the thousands he could be winning in Open.  And the same will be true for Dave Wiggins or any other amateur.  When they realize the money is there for them in the Open division, they'll go play Open instead of taking your valuable amateur prize money .  If the money isn't there for somebody, don't try to kick them out the door just because you're tired of getting your butt kicked by them.

I think sponsored amateurs are a more outrageous concept than really good amateurs.

I cannot remember anyone ever being kicked out of college football or basketball because they were too good to play as an amateur.  Plenty of players quit before they get their degree or exhaust their eligibility, but does anyone shout "Bagger!" at the star player on the college team?

Disc golf is the only sport I know where many amateurs think they have a right to be protected from competing against really good players.
