Last year they had a doubles event on Friday and a final nine for the top four pros on Sunday afternoon.

I still haven't played West Lake yet.  Can't wait for this tournament.  100$ entry fee, I'm going to have to cash in my change ;D
Vibram Disc Golf, Ledgestone Insurance, Paragon and Whirld Sports are all cool. Real cool.

I saw that the American Inn was a sponsor, but didn't know if that meant there was a special rate or a block of rooms had been set aside?  Does anybody know any information about this?  Secondly, where is everyone staying for this tournament?

when I was on the phone to the TD John Resch the other day, he said they do have a special rate of something like $65 (I don't know the exact amount though), and I didn't ask if they had a block of rooms.  I would think that there would be a block available at the special rate and that's it.  They decided to not go back to the same place as last year - although it was a super nice place!

everyone pray for a dry march if you want to play west lake for the RCR
crap!

I still can't get into the QC site, but a couple of questions, if anybody can answer:

1) If there are 3 pools, and everybody's playing West Lake, and the pros are playing it twice, there must be 3 separate tee times on Sat; but they're not listed.

2) It sounds like "West Lake" is much *more* of a lake right now than usual, and will only get worse through March. (I grew up back there, so I know what the water in the spring is like...  :P ) - Daanaaa's post suggests that the course availability might be in question.

Last year the total number or Pros, Adv Masters, & Intermediate added up to 65, so if they increase to 72 they can still fit threesomes onto every hole at West Lake (24 holes).  I do not know, but I assume those divisions will play together for the first round on Saturday.

From the iowadg.com forum:

The main sticking point that we have is that the Scott County Conservation Board of Directors (rulers of West Lake) have written the following stipulation into our park usage permit :

"It must be understood that the weather may make the course unplayable or create conditions for excessive damage if the event is held. The Park Manager has the authority to cancel the event if ground conditions warrant."

The first RCR was held on 4/9/06 and was reasonably dry, but we didn't have the snow that winter that we have now.

BTW, happy birthday, DS.

The event is 4 weeks away.  I would try to move it to a date later in the year if it were my event.  I have no inclination to travel 3 hours to a tourney, not knowing if they will be allowing us to play the course or not.  Not to mention its most likely going to be a muddy disaster in late March, which shouldn't have come as a big surprise to anybody.

well, even though playing west lake would be preferable, thankfully they have other good courses that could be used in its place

Here's the information that I have:

1) If they call the event, they are going to call it with enough advanced notice so that people can plan accordingly.  If there's any chance that the conservation board will pull the plug on them, they'll make that choice as early as they can.

2) There is discussion about the possibility of using a backup course even though the main pull for this event is playing West Lake.

3) The event cannot be moved to another weekend this year because in order to use West Lake they must also rent a minimum of one pavilion with the event, and all pavilions are booked for every weekend for the remainder of the year.

4) I know that for Sunday they are planning on having tee times to get everyone through.  I don't know what the plan was for Saturday morning.  The main reason I talked with the TD (John) was because he wanted to make sure that I was ok with no one playing at Eastern for the morning round on Saturday.

5) There is a lot of good discussion about this event going on at iowadg.com, found here.

Damon,
See if this direct link works:

That's the page that loads no problem for me and discusses the RCR and sign-up information.

thanks. I can get to the QC site, but not into the forums. Most of the info seems to be at IowaDG.com anyhow.
thanks, Scott, for pointing me there.

Gentlemen: After significant discussion, it was decided by those in attendance at
last night's meeting of the Quad City Disc Golf Club, to postpone the date of the
River Cities Rumble until later in the year.  Aside from the potential for flooding
at some courses, the main reason for this decision is because there is possibility
of having the event cancelled 'day of' by the authorities at West Lake Park.  It
just isn't a gamble we're willing to take. I contacted Dave Gentry this morning and
let him know of our decision.  Our next step is to provide Dave with alternative
dates so that we can reschedule the event.  Once we've narrowed our options, I'll be
in contact with you to ensure there are no conflicting dates. If you could disperse
this information to your constituents by whatever means is convenient, it would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, John ReschChairmanQuad City Disc Golf

maaan, and it would figure that Bowling Green would now be full for INT/REC signup oh well lol.  I'm proud of them for making this decision early enough for all though.  It was a wise step.

Can anyone tell me if there is going to be another tournament in the area that will be a qualifier for the 2008 United States Amateur Disc Golf Championship?

I guess if Scott's info is correct they'll have trouble with the rescheduling. I was looking forward to playing West Lake also, hopefully they can find or bribe someone to let a pavillion go.

stpitner

well, it was the TD that said both things, so it's possible that he worked something out with the park district (or someone cancelled)
