Just found this one today. I've seen the rest but I believe this is fairly new. Discraft does a really good job with these and wish there were more of these produced.

can't putt

Well, the big lesson learned from this video to the key to great distance is to be under 30.

These Discraft video clinics are well done, but speaking of clinics are you still planning on giving lessons this year, Brett?

I was thinking about that the other day. I do plan on doing this and will keep you posted.

I found about disc golf from a friend about 4 months ago.  I spent most of the winter learnng more about it online.  I like the teaching videos.  I purchased set of discs to give it a try, but  I'm wondering what would be the best disc to start with, until I get better.  I also would like to know if there are any lessons or clinics planned in the area.    Thanks for any info.   Patti.

What discs were in your set of discs?  I would generally recommend that a person JUST starting out try nothing more than a mid-range and putter.  Then after a little bit you can start mixing in a driver and see how that works.  People frequently go straight for the driver and then get upset when you throw the disc and it goes 50 feet before fading hard to the left or right.

Typically I'd say to start out with a Shark (mid-range), and then a putter (Aviar or Aero).  The wind messes with an Aero a lot, but it's easier to float towards the basket at first.

Another key is to not be discouraged if you don't score 2's and 3's right away.  When my wife first started playing I was telling her to be happy with a 6.  Sure you'll slowly want to reduce the scores, but it definitely does take some practice to improve your game!

#1 Throw Backhand
#2 Throw Mid Range. I would start with a Roc or Buzz. They are overstable enough to throw some power drives with. They will slowly beat in becoming the straight disc you'll need. After a few months i'd purchase a leopard, valkyrie, or something similar in stability.
Putt with a putter. Throw it for shorter approach shots as well.
#3 i'll have some information out in the next month or so about lessons.

#1 Throw Backhand

I would have to agree with Brett on this. Even though the sidearm or forearm is a lot easier to throw right away, the backhand will help your game much more than the sidearm. The consistency of the Backhand is the key, once you get this down, the sky is the limit.

Thanks everyone this is great info.  The set I purchased had a leopard, shark, and aviar.  I've only been able to throw backhand, so far.  I am looking forward to hearing more about lessons when they are available.  I'm left handed so everything is reversed when I'm watching the videos.  Just need to practice.   :D   Thanks again.   Patti.

GO LEFTIES! :)

Yeah, that's a great set to get started with.  Throw the shark more than the leopard at first, and then slowly start working in the Leopard.  Or, when you get started and are just practicing, throw both - note the differences, proceed from there.  Don't get discouraged early on, the distance and accuracy comes with time and practice.
