The courses are finally secured - Don't Be Fooled 2 will take place on Saturday, 4/26/08 at Highland Park's 2 courses - Fink and Danny Cunniff.  This will be a C-Tier event.

We plan on using BOTH courses at the SAME time.  More information will be posted as far as what course you can report to first in the morning (although I'm sure we'll be able to take registrations for any division at either course and make sure that you get to the correct course in time).  Look for details to appear on paperorplasticsports.com before the end of the weekend.

The format will be singles - 2 rounds of 11 holes at each course (9 permanent + 2 temp) -- 44 holes total played for the day.

I'm pretty sure the main tournament central with the merch will be set up at Cunniff.

It looks like the splits will be All PRO Divisions/AM1/AM2 will be one group, and all other divisions (Advanced Masters, Adv Grandmasters - if exists, AM3, AM4, women, and juniors) will be the other split.

If you are PRO/AM1/AM2, you will register and start at FINK PARK.

If you are in a division other than that group, you will register and start at CUNNIFF (Centennial) PARK.

I will have the split information posted on my website at some point Sunday (as long as I remember).

Pre-registration stuff is getting setup and will be available in a couple days at pdgasignup.com.

You will be allowed to register at either course, but if you show up at the wrong one you have to travel to the other course to start - mainly because Pro/Am1/Am2 will also play a set of alts.  The other group will not.

Anyone that pre-registers will be given instructions on where to show up.

Checkin/Registration is from 8AM-9AM, players meeting at 9:15AM (as long as you register in time, there will be enough time to get to the other course if necessary).  There will be plenty of phone calls made to ensure that everyone gets to the proper spot in time.

Pre-registration is preferred and ideal.  It makes life easier.

Split groups are limited to 55 players per group.

Group A (Pro/Am1/Am2) will play Fink for the morning, Cunniff in the afternoon.
Group B (all others) will play Cunniff in the morning, Fink in the afternoon.

Ceremonies and payouts will be held at Cunniff, so group B will need to travel back to Cunniff after their 2nd round to receive payouts.  Hopefully before everyone from Fink arrives I'll have the Group A stuff all completed so that I can help get people on their way as quickly as possible.

Entry fees:
Pro Divisions: $35
AM Divisions: $25
Junior Divisions: $15

Non-Current PDGA members (except Juniors) subject to $10 fee added to above prices.

Pre-registration should be opening up sometime today.  Once the red text stating that pre-registration will open shortly is gone you can feel free to sign up.  Check-in instructions will be sent out to each player after I receive the pre-registration confirmation.

I don't expect all of the divisions that are listed to actually exist for the tournament, but I wanted to make sure the options were there in case there is enough interest.

Pre-reg closes Thursday, April 24th, at 8pm central time.

Weather forecast is currently high 50's with a mostly cloudy forecast.  Pre-reg is officially at 3 people, but I have about 10 verbal commitments.

$35 for Pro Open/Masters/Pro Women (report to Fink)
$25 for Advanced/Intermediate (report to Fink)
$25 for Advanced Master/Recreational/Novice/Am Womens (report to Cunniff)
$15 for Junior < 19/Junior < 16 (report to Cunniff)

I have one Rec woman signed up so far - I'd love to have some more women come out to actually keep that division.  If we do not get at least 3 women, they will be moved to Novice.

If you are playing in this event and wouldn't mind loaning out a basket, I am looking to borrow one basket that is either an Innova DISCatcher Sport equivalent or better.  Right now I have 2 DISCatcher Sports, a Chainstar, and a skillshot to use, but I'd like to see something other than a skillshot get some usage (maybe set up the skillshot as a practice basket)

Much appreciated!

I honestly have no clue.  I know that I have about 3 or 4 verbal commitments to Novice, and I know of about 2 or so more Rec players (to add to the 2 already pre-reg'd) - pre-reg is really down for this tournament, so that doesn't really give me a good answer because I know a lot of people show up the day of the tournament.

In order to compensate for some stuff that happened today beyond my control, we will not be playing at Fink tomorrow.  If you know anyone playing at the tournament, please tell them to go to Cunniff!  I'm going to stop by fink on the way out to leave a note on hole one telling everyone to go to Cunniff.

We are completely changing up the format of the tournament.  I've added 3 additional temp holes to Cunniff to have a total of 14 holes.  We will be playing THREE rounds of 14.

The format will be like this:
1 round of 14 from the shorts (woodchip tees/temp tees)
30 minute break.  New scorecards will be distributed, however, players will not be redistributed and will start at the same hole again.
1 round of 14 from the alternates/temp tees
1-hour lunch break.  Player shuffle.
1 round of 14 from the shorts (woodchip tees/temp tees)

Temp tees will be the same for all 3 rounds.  Total of 42-holes for the day. I hope that the format will be ok.  I am not sure how anything would be different for reporting to the pdga, I will try to find out for sure.

or should I just have a really long first round of 28 holes with no break?  I was thinking about the 30-minute break, and some people may finish a round at a different time than others, and that 30-minute break could easily turn into an hour.  With a hopeful 9:15-9:30 start time and lots of daylight, I think we would be ok, but what do you think?  The 2nd round of 14 would pick up right where the first one left off - the order that ended the first round will be the order for the 1st hole of the 2nd set of 14.

question. what happens if you get over 70 people??? is there anyway to add 4 more holes and just do two rounds of 18.. one round short one round long???

stpitner

we have one backup basket for a 15th hole tentatively lined up.  beyond that it would really be tight on adding any more holes - there is a lot of room, but it's overgrown and right now it looked swampy.  there would also be some room for maybe a 200-250' ace run on an open grassy area with maybe light road OB, but I don't want to add holes just for the sake of adding holes.

If you have a discatcher sport basket or better feel free to bring it, but I don't want to be scrambling like I was at Channahon to try to accommodate for more people.  I know that it's short notice that we are dropping from 110 people capacity to 70.  However, right now I only have about 20 people that I know about that plan on attending.  I'm presuming that there will be lots more coming out (eg. it sounds like you're going to make the trip, I didn't know that, so that's great!)

We had 32 players come out.  Thanks to those of you who attended the event.  Special thanks to David Nelson for help with course setup and making arrangements with Chris for a temp basket.  Extra special thanks to Underdog for his help with course setup, unloading, course tear down, and loading back up.

SUPER windy on Saturday.  All lost discs that were turned in to me were returned to their owners.  I think someone found a McManus disc and it went to someone who would see Tom soon.  That was about all that I heard about.

I will post up the results after I communicate with the PDGA on if they want me to report the event as 2 rated rounds or 3 rated rounds.

*phew* glad I made it 14 holes then :)  David Gentry just wrote me back and said to go ahead and submit 3 rounds of 14 holes, so there will be 3 rated rounds from the event.  It makes it slightly easier on the round layouts too: A, B, A for the rounds and probably easier for them when analyzing the results.

craziness :)

Any idea when the scores will be posted?

stpitner

Ask you and shall receive :)  Actually I posted scores, then read this ;)  I just finished doing inventory last night, and since my entire store is shut down while I do that process, I give that a higher priority.

I'll be sure to turn in with my TD report that it was very windy out, but I don't know if they will massage the ratings any because of that.
