to answer the question about non-current: yes, the PDGA sends you a list of all current and non current players in Illinois and surrounding states (80+ pages, unless you know excel and then can shrink it down to about 40).  I guess they used to mail that list out, but now it's just emailed.  I print it and bring it, but I am not always able to verify it until during the round.  If caught, I'd talk to you between rounds.  I don't know if they had the list with them or not, but yes, a TD does have the ability to detect this as long as the player at some point in time had a rating.  I just looked it up in my own listing and found him at 913.  It also tells me that the rating was from 6/24/06 - so that's still plenty recent enough to consider it to be an MA2 player.

to answer pro playing am: Reading from the 2008 PDGA Competition Manual, found here http://www.pdga.com/documents/2008/08CompetitionManual.pdf

It states under section 2.4 on page 10:

Pros rated less than 970 may now compete in Amateur
divisions offered at PDGA A, B, and C Tier events, for
which they qualify based on player rating, age, and gender.

(1) Pro Men and Women
• < 970 can play Advanced (MA1)
• < 935 can play Intermediate (MA2)
• < 935 can also play Advanced Master (MM1) if they
are of Masters age
• < 900 can play Recreational (MA3)
• < 900 can also play Advanced Grandmaster (MG1) if
they are of Grandmasters age
• < 850 can play Novice (MA4)

B. Players are awarded Amateur points for their performance
but these points are not eligible for year-end awards or
Worlds invitations.

A lot of other people are wondering the same thing as you can see on the DGRUS thread for the tourney. He got a qualifying email like the rest of us did and was wondering why he got it and then when Todd checked with the PDGA they said he was OK because he had registered this year as an amateur. Definitely not following their own rules though, so who knows.

If these people registered as Ams under the amnesty rule then it is completely different than a "pro" playing an "am" division. The pro amnesty plan made formerly "pros" now actual "ams" with all the rights of a PDGA Amateur.

Right, but that was a one time thing for 2007 wasn't it? It takes 3 years for the amnesty process otherwise.

I do not know the people in question so I didn't know if they might be 2007 amnesty Ams. The "normal" amnesty process takes however long the PDGA decides it will take...if ever.

Sorry about that Dan.  Congrats.  I don't know how you slipped my mind.  I must have blocked it out from spite since you shot as well as me first round :-p.  Obviously the tourney is on pdga now if you're interested.

Spazz has been playing disc golf for a long time. There is no reason he should have signed up for Novice.

If Ben "cashes" in open, he takes merch.  I don't think he is even playing AM NATS anyways, he hurt his back.

Mukey

lol, was just telling a buddy about Spazz yesterday and how he hadn't "graced" an event for a while *sigh*

Congrats on the win Dan!!!

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

I wish there would be a re-design out there.
Vibram Disc Golf, Ledgestone Insurance, Paragon and Whirld Sports are all cool. Real cool.

skipache

daemon is able to play am nats because he took amnesty and reclassified to am...
