The original 9 hole Adler with the cones was the first permanent disc golf course that I ever played. When they added the back 9 to make it an 18 hole course it was the first 18 hole course in Lake County. I believe it was the only 18 hole course in Lake County for the entire time it was in the ground.

The 18 hole course was a really good course in its day. With the plastic we had to throw at the time and the level of play in the area it was a very fun course. If it were still in the ground today it would be 14 of the lamest disc golf holes in the area. It would have to be completely redesigned to be fun...unless you played with big lids.

The 18 hole course was not pulled because of trash, or drugs or anything else having to do with the players. I know because I personally spoke to the parks director at the time. He told me that the biggest concern was public urination. However he said that if they were pulling the 18 baskets because of concern of the players behavior then they would not be putting a 9 hole course back in. The reason they pulled it was because of the construction of the bicycle trails, the multi-use building with the bathrooms, the pavilion on what was fairway 1, the sand volley ball courts on what were fairways 2 and 3 (not sure if those are still there) and the new tot lot by formerly fairways 8 and 18. They also were aware that the course was becoming too short and easy for the new plastic and level of play (they had a couple of players on their staff). They hired a firm to design the course and I think they made a pretty good 9 hole course out of what was left of the available playing area.

When in a public park I think a good rule of thumb is to behave the same way as if you were playing in the back yard of your friend's grand parents. That would work for most people.

Now see thats interesting because the information I received was from the park disctrict also.  However, it doesn't look like the public urnination ever stopped because three people in my group last Tuesday did it out in the alts

well if you look at where all the mprovements went into the park then you would realize that all the holes were in the middle of the improvements and if i am correct in saying if you only started playing in 93 then how would you what the course played like it was pulled before then get ur facts straight and if ur that nark then u need  to get a life


P.S drinking and driving is illegal so when you see people donig that why not call the cops when they leave the park u just contradicted urself

Maybe you should bring a police escort with you for each round of disc golf you play in the future.  That way you will always be insulated from all illegal activities.  Do you also obey all speed limits every time you drive a car?  Were you recently crowned the new moral authority for the game of disc golf?  

I hope you and everyone else can keep in mind each day you spend time, money, and/or effort on any disc golf course that this is merely a game.  All of us should only be there to HAVE FUN!!!  

If anyone has another agenda besides HAVING FUN while participating in this wonderful game, they probably don't last more than a round or 2.  I'm glad to see that you have ample time on your hands to continue to complain about others' fringe activities and what they choose to put into their bodies.  One day, maybe I will be the cranky old man that has a ton of time to impose my moral and ethical decisions on others.  On second thought, I will never be that person because I will always make the decision to have as much FUN as possible while I'm stuck in this place.    If that ever changes, I hope I am able to recognize the change and find a new activity.  Maybe you should at least consider the option?

I have zero intentions on fighting. I just want this BS out in the open so people know what they could be getting into. Several and I mean several players that go to doubles are aware of this. There is zero need for people to get called out to the authorities because of one mans self righteous agenda.

There should be a proper announcement for all to hear just so it's known that someone is willing to go to extreme measures to get his way. I can't speak on behalf of the other dozens of partakers but if its going to be like this, people should know.

Like I said before, the word has spread fast. Tons of guys don't come on here that frequent dubs. I'm a pretty level headed guy but some guys just flat out don't care about peoples feelings and I'm sure there will be some hostility.

To answer your question, no I don't cry, I have not had a speeding ticket in years and the one time I did I got out of it because the cop was cool. The cops have been on bikes for years at Adler, that's nothing new man. People smoke in their cars all the time but if they choose not too than so be it, BIG FUCKING DEAL!

May I interject with a funny story? It was probably 1983 or 1984 and I was at Adler hanging out after the round. There was a guy that I used to hang around with during gym class who was out there. His name was Daryl and he smoked a lot of dope. He was sitting in his jeep with everything open and had just lit a joint when a cop pulls up next to him. He drops the joint into his crotch. The cop walks up to his side of the jeep and Daryl closes his legs over the lit joint. I was standing on the other side of the Jeep. So, the cop makes small talk with Daryl. He must have smelled the dope and was trying to figure out where it was coming from. He makes the rounds and says hello to all of us. Chats us up for a couple of minutes. Then he gets a call, hops in his car and drives off. Daryl's eyes were starting to water. The whole time the joint was burning his upper thighs. We all started laughing so hard!

Adler has some of the best doubles around. I have no reason to go anywhere else. It is the highlight of my week to participate and hang out with great friends and golfers.

That is hilarious! Good times! Kinda reminds of when the dude dropped the jay in the car while driving listening to Creedence in The Big Lebowski. Cracks me up every time.
