Courses near Oak Brook, IL

Hello,

Hoping for a little local help.  My wife and I will be coming to Oak Brook for a long weekend, my wife has a conference during the days so I am hoping to get some disc golf in.  Did a PDGA search, found quite a list of courses within 15-20 miles or so.  Only have time for 2 or 3, wondering if someone could recommend which of these to play and which to skip (if any).

Consider a longer drive and play the courses along I-80:
Mokena (The Oaks)
Joliet (West Park)
Channahon (Community Park)

Thanks, appreciate it.  I do have an old college roomate in Aurora, is the course at Jerico Lake worth playing?  May try to get him to leave the golf clubs in the trunk for a few hours...

Jericho Lake is worth playing and fairly easy to get to since you will just shoot down I-88. About 2-3 miles from Aurora is the course in Oswego. Two different types of courses. Aurora is in a more park-like setting, Oswego has a number of holes in tighter woods.

I live in the area and what I play during the day during the weekdays.

Central Park (oakbrook) - solid nine holes, forces me to throw different ways. and closest.
Mayfair park (westchester) - short nine, a couple good holes, but mainly for taking out first timers, or the misses wants to play.
Summit (summit) - 18 holes: tight wooded holes, couple open, nothing real long. i use it to force me to throw low and straight when I get erratic, but don't go often and i could ride my bike there if i wasn't fat and lazy.
Madison Meadows (lombard) - 18 holes, some long holes, tree and pond not overly wooded.  where we probably spend the most time.
Lombard Commons (lombard) - 10 hole: don't usually bother unless it with the misses or just have time for nine and in the area.  
Goose Park (roselle) - 9 hole: half the course in decent, half the course is just open.  has potential and they are working on it. wouldn't pick it if you were just getting a round in.
Shady Oaks (streamwood) - 18 hole; some risk and reward shots, creeks to throw over, some still open to grip and rip. my favorite on my way to work, by far.
Castaldo (woodridge) - new 9 hole in the area. fun, elevations used and technical.  hole ne ate my daredevil wolverine on the left because of high wind gusts (and lack of ability) so me and that course are fighting.  but i would definitely go back again.

18 holes worth driving a little longer to for me are:
The Oaks (Mokena)
Community Park (Channahon)
Eagle Ridge (Oswego)

Jericho Lake (Aurora) is decent course too.  I would plan to hit Jericho Lake and Eagle Ridge together.  I can leave my house at 8:30ish play both courses, grab lunch, take a shower at the gym, and be at work about 45 southeast of there by 1:30 - 2:00 .  just to give you some idea of time wise that would take.  oakbrook is not a strong 18 hole area. so if your looking for 18 you may have to travel a little further.

Not that you asked, but...if you want a recommendation of a nice, classy restaurant to take your wife out to, especially if someone else is paying, I recommend The Club House. http://www.theclubhouse.com/oakbrook/

It's a little on the pricey side but has great food and an excellent atmosphere. Sophisticated without being pretentious. Has some good wine selections and wait staff that will help you with your selection without making you feel like an idiot.

I work in Oak Brook (22nd/York essentially), so I can help you out with directions if necessary...

Definitely hit Oak Brook's Central Park.  The only goofy thing is the walk from 5 to 6, other than that it's the best 9-hole course in the area.

The next closest that is worthwhile is Madison Meadows - it's just down Roosevelt a little ways (maybe 15 minutes because of traffic and lights).  If you want to keep heading northwest, play Shady Oaks in Streamwood.

If you'd rather travel south, do what the others are recommending and hit The Oaks in Mokena, West Park in Joliet, and Community Park in Channahon.

Since you mentioned Aurora, I agree with playing Oswego before Jericho.  Oswego is tough, and Jericho is on the easier side - but it's a nice relaxing round at least   Aurora's about 45 minutes from Oak Brook - it really depends on the time of day because of the construction on 88.

Hey, thanks to all who replied.  Going to print out this page for reference.  Will be over there tomorrow night (Thurs.), try to play Friday , Saturday and Sunday morning if the weather isn't too bad.   MIght even look up that restaurant since her Hospital should be paying.....
