I hate when the PDGA server is down. One less distraction while at work.
So far what I have figured out is that pdga.com is up and responding, but the dns servers at pdga.net are down. Which is why no one can get to pdga.com

Let me modify that. It looks like they changed who was hosting the name servers  (the record was changed yesterday). Depending on dns propagation delays, pdga.com should be accessible later today.

Sounds like they're finally getting the new website going.  Sort of.

Looks like the new website is the functional equivalent of the new magazine.

Cutting over two days before the USDGC is not great timing. They would have better off waiting until the first week of November when the annual flame wars erupt on the message boards.

this is what it says now:

The PDGA website is under maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I'm sure that with the thousands of dollars they have earned from the IOS tourneys alone they could have hired anyone who has ever worked with web servers to make it a seamless transition, but who knows. Typical stuff really. Hey, at least we don't have to see Chuck Kennedy's posts for a few days!

I agree, terrible timing. Let's hope they can get it up and running in time....

For you Taylor... A Chuck post

The company hosting the PDGA site has been down systemwide since Sunday evening which apparently must have been from quite a hack. The PDGA site now has a message on it that it's under maintenance. I got email from Karolyn this morning so they've gotten email back at least. However, Gentry is at the USDGC and it's apparently still not down due to work on upgrading the site this week.

Got an update. Apparently it was a hardware issue specifically with the PDGA server that the hosting service is working on. They hope to get us back up later today if possible and before tomorrow when the USDGC tees off.

They should have a replication server as a plan b for reasons like this..... We've ran into issues like that
in the past, nothin but headaches....

What's the ROI for the PDGA on something like that? I can't imagine that their website is a big money maker. They don't "lose" business if their website is down for a day or two. I don't see the business case for it.

There really is none, but it's just nice to have a fail safe, money maker or not. At least they put up a message though.

Their web host should have plans to do something like that though you would think.  Unless the PDGA has a dedicated server, you would also think that multiple accounts are on this same server and are all down at the same time.

Translation: cheap hosting :)

Well, if only PDGA members can use the message board and it is one of the benefits of the paid membership, then it's not all about ROI, it's about getting what you paid for. The ROI is people spreading the word about the PDGA and the benefits.

I agree that it sucks when web sites go down but I don't want any of my membership money or tournament fees to be spent on backup servers and contingency plans.

Well I don't want my money to fly people involved with the PDGA all over the world, but we don't get to choose that either now do we? :)

Pretty much absolutely the WORST TIMING EVER to do this as a PDGA Major is gearing up and I, likely along with countless hundreds, are going to let the PDGA know about it as soon as its back up.

We could argue until the trumpets blow about what the PDGA should and shouldn't spend our money on. We get a say only in the same way that we get a say on how congress spends our money. We get to vote but most of us don't.
