Look forward to discussion away from board.

Multi Projects Slated.

Lake County Goal "Seven New Courses" By end of 2005

Thank You

I would be happy with 1 championship calibur course that will push my game. That is what Lake County does not have.

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

Vernon Hills Little Bear Lagoon has the answers.

Will post prototype again when interest picks up.

Well, I rang their doorbell to let them know what happened, and see if I could retrieve my disc (they weren't home). So it's not like I just tryed to get him up there as fast as I could and make off with my disc

Obviously yeah, there will be some serious issues with the homeowners in that area but the geniuses at the m.p.d didn't take that into consideration...

mirth

Yeah, I didn't mean for it to sound like I thought you didn't let the homeowner know...
Don't forget your towel!

Hi Al,
I'm very happy to hear that your enthusiasm is still high!
Regarding the "multi-projects slated", would you care to state what they are or where they are?
Not that i'm trying to horn in on your ideas, cuz i'm not, but you seem to be trying to do it all yourself.  Discontinuum has 50 members, some very experienced and knowledgeable, whom you can -and should - be consulting.
Let's face it.  Leo Leathers sucks.  BUT - it can be a really sweet course.  Why make all these ideas "works in progress" when several people working together can create a great course right off the bat?  I have found that one person usually does not see every angle to a problem/issue.  It takes more people to be able to tackle something like designing a disc golf course.
Again, this is NOT written to insult or discourage you. But please stop creeping in the shadows and keeping secrets - you may even have more fun with more people involved.
:)

Great point. If Club Focus can remain on Design and Development then Lake County and surrounding areas can benefit. As far as shadow dancing, I have only 24 Hours in the day, ground work is sometimes easier working solo. All projects will be on table in short term.

Over the past 3-4 years, we have honed design and installation proposals for park districts and other land-governing bodies.  These have gone through several dozen drafts; and each time we choose to propose a new course, we specifically tailor the proposals for that venue.

Also, after working extensively with park districts, forest preserves, and municipalities, I've gotten to know much of their focus and vocabulary. We have also contacted many of the cities and park districts in the area over the past few years. I would hate to see you waste time going through processes we've already covered.
In short, we have found it worthwhile to be patient, kiss some butt on occasion, talk their talk, and be more patient.

One well-designed course every three years is better than a dozen poorly-executed and lofty ideas.

Stopped by the course for some practice on my way thru Mundelein yestarday. There were 3 groups on the course & it felt really crowded. The neighbors to the right of basket #3 have put up Private Property Signs on their fence. I wonder if they like disc golf :D . The tees seem to be holding up pretty good. They put #'s on the wooden frames so you know what tee you are standing on. I practiced for 30 minutes on putts & approaches using the line of baskets #'s 1, 8, 4, 7, & 5. I then played holes 1, 2, & 9. The best 3 holes on the course & you can air out some drives. They are routed perfect for some quick practice.

Will this course be added to the PDGA Directory.

Played in Late afternoon rain today... Really very good conditions..This game still only counts when you put the disc in the basket. 1,2,9 are the best here without question. Enjoyed 18. Working on getting score below -5 (par 3) everywhere. Coming close.

When MPD config's new 4,5,6,7, add's 80-100ft to 9. The course will crank !

I feel it will happen in (short) time.

Practice here is very good. Great ULTIMATE conditions.

Hope you don't mind me commenting and asking a questions.  I've played some disc golf in Libertyville and out of town but I am still what I would call a beginner. I do play the Mundelein course now several times a week and have since before it had baskets and opened.

I did notice felt tip marker numbers on each hole immediatly after a park district employee was out measuring the holes.  1, 8, and 9 have 4s and the rest have 3s. I have assumed that would be the par. Judging from the distance, from my viewpoint, that would be logical. A park employee told me that there were plans to add yardage/par signs at the tees.

I realize that disc golf enthusiasts such as yourselves might not consider the course a perfect layout but I'm glad to have one here. It is bringing the sport to more people and getting it attention. The more people that learn about it, the more it will gain mainstream popularity.  I saw a dad out there this weekend with a group of kids, possibly a party. They were having a great time and being introduced to the game.  The price is right too.

Birdman-Mundelein is a great beginner course, from what I've heard. (I haven't had the privilege yet). Some of the comments posted here are showing concern for placement. We love to play on new courses but we don't want disc golfers to tick off the people who live on the course because the routing is too close to the residences. Also, a beginner course is good for beginners but doesn't allow people to grow as their game does. Have fun and explore all that this area has to offer!

I've been getting very frustrated stopping by this course on the way home. There are still quite a few baskets removed at Fairfield so i've been practicing here after games & baseball practice.

Every night this week there has been a group using the baseball field and there has been soccer practice on the grass. Holes #1,5,8,& 9 have pretty much been unplayable. I have been able to throw over the kids with no real threat to hit them. Rec players have a good chance of blasting them.  I used the other baskets to practice. I've been putting, throwing putter uspshots, & mid range roc shots. After that i've tried to play holes 1,2, & 9. Think of Bevier #2 & #3 with soccer players X's 10 with little kids.

The parking lot lane has had cars parked all the way down it each night. The lane probably sits 280ft-300ft off the #9 tee. The basket for #9 is on the other side of the lane. It's frustrating not being able to throw the best hole on the course because cars guard the pole. Against my better judgement, I threw over the top of the cars tonight. I had a good wind though <_< .

Park Districts like the Revenue these Youngsters Bring...Spring Time everywhere is Busy...

#9 is the #1 Handicap here..But not worth Hitting a car or Creating that special Kodak Moment..

Because redesign might be too drastic, or adding four More (on east side of park) along with alternate tee,s might not be in 2004 future...

adding practice facility on Park District property west of Hole #1 across street is an Idea. Three Tee Pads and Three Baskets could be placed. 3x3 =9 Distances and looks all be different might look like this,,
I think longest look 270 ft.
