I currently through a champion Valkyrie, however, it seems that I need something stronger. As far as what the disc is made out of I would probably prefer Stat. I know that a Wraith would be way too much for me to handle right now. Any suggestions, I am open to listening to all brands (Innova, Discraft, etc.). I've also heard that the discraft buzz is a good mid range that I was interested in and was wondering if someone could tell me what it is good for and the type/durability that you prefer. Just as a side note, I can throw both back hand, but am looking for a drive that lets me throw backhand as my default.

Thanks,

Striker,

I am no expert, but perhaps you could try a champ viking or a champ orc.

I'm not sure how long you have been playing or where your skill level is. The Valkyrie is a fantastic disc. If you learn how to throw it you can become an effective player.

If I could go back to the first day I picked up a disc i'd only throw a putter and Roc/Buzz only for the first year or two. These discs go where and how you throw them. They do not mask bad form and correct mistakes like these overstable drivers do. If you put the time into throwing them every day you will become an effective player.

I agree with Brett!!  Although I would say Wasp and Buzzz, but Rock and Buzzz do just as well.

I know when I first started I was throwing drivers and had a lot of unbrideled power, but it wasn't until someone sat me down and told me to just start playing with my mid ranges for awhile did I realize how bad my for was.  I played with just Midrange for about 2 months working on proper form.  I can see how much it has improved my game, I now have power and some accuracy.

I'll stick with one brand right now just so that it's not an over abundance of information.  If you want to try out some different discs to see what some other stuff can do, start by going to this page:

http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/index.html

You're using a Valkyrie.  Speed 9, about the middle of the pack.  I really like Tom's Suggestions of the Viking or Orc.  It's either one step up and one to the left or immediately to the left.  It's a little bit more of a shorter range disc (although there are plenty of people that can bomb it just as easily as the others), but a TeeBird might be another good choice to try out.

I don't completely agree with how it lines up all of those discs left to right from most stable to least stable (curves hardest at the end of flight to curves least at the end of flight).  The speed 11 through 13 discs almost all need to be shifted more to the left slightly (and no two players can ever throw the same disc exactly the same so opinion's will vary greatly).  Actually, an SL would probably be another good choice of something to try out.

That sounds like a great idea. As far as the Buzzz goes is there a certain durability that you would recommend I am not really familiar with the different lines of discraft. For example, what line buzzz is most popular or gets the best reviews (Pro D, Elite X, Elite Z, ESP, FLX).

On another note, as far as my skill level (it's low....). I started really getting serious last summer and would go out every day and play a couple of rounds. I also entered into a few of the doubles tournaments at adler park and bevier.

I'm just curious about your recommendation on the SL. What do you think would be better about an SL for me as opposed to something a little similiar like a beast.

stpitner

For Buzzz, I would probably go for Elite-X or ESP.  Both have additional durability over the Pro-D, and both will give you a decent grip.  The FLX is good in cold weather, but just to learn the disc I would say Elite-X or ESP.

For recommendation of the SL - the disc is a little beefier than the Beast.  With a Beast you may find it to start flying similar to your Valkyrie and flipping it over.  Based on your first post looking for something stronger, you'll get that out of the SL more than you would the Beast.

I would say that Check out the Buzzz assortment and pick what feels best in your hands.  To me I throw a flx and a crystal.  A lot of people like the Z for durability or the X because its grip.  Pick what feels good to you.  I would be willing if you are in the area to use a couple I have to throw a bit and see which plastic you like better.

I live in Naperville and generall stick to St. Charles, Lombard, Aurora, Oswego, Bartlett courses to play casual rounds until tournaments or open weekends where I can play different courses.  If you are interested let me know.

I would love to be able to try out the different buzzz's, but I stick more towards the courses in the Warren, Adler, Bevier, and Round Lake area.

Talk to Adrian if he's out there at Round Lake.  There's a good chance that he has a couple Buzzz's that you can check out and buy.

Do any of you have any other good recommendations for for other mid range discs. I will be trying the buzz ASAP, but I was just wondering what else you guys like to use.

stpitner

Buzzz and Roc are hands down my best sellers.  For windy days and discs that will finish hard at the end, the top movers are Drones and Gators.  For understable mid's that will fly the opposite direction, I'd say try out the Stingray or Glide.

I recommend you start with a D Buzz.  It will get beat-in for you and fly very straight.  They are also cheap in case you decide you don't like the Buzz.  I really like the FLX buzzes because of how they feel.

At the end of the day, no matter what disc you get, if you spend enough time with it you'll learn how to make it work like you want.  I've been playing this game for alot of years and while some discs do instantly add distance, I have yet to see a disc that instantly makes you a better player.  Just find a disc that feels good and stick with it.

I would look into a Comet, Wasp, and Drone

The Wasp is comparable to a roc.  In my opinion better. but again that is my opinion.
