With the Homie and the Michigan State Champs still to be played, that 600 point lead is not insurmountable.

I don't know if one of the Illinois players can catch Justin, but it is possible. As of Sept 25:

Justin Atwater-Taylor  KS    9868
David Nelson     IL  9063
Taylor Cimala   IL  8913
Matt Travis  IL 8463
Jeremy Rusco   KS  7978
Blaine Kinkel   SC 7955
Christopher Brenholtz   IL  7190
Tony Ferro    Switzerland 6975
Kris Kapitan  MN  6963
Chad Nelson    IA  6753
Robert McDonald  IL 6545

Three of the top five, and five of the top eleven AM open points leaders are from Illinois. Good job at scoring well in the big events.

I was looking at the am grand points situation and I now have a new hero:

http://www.pdga.com/player-stats?PDGANum=32290

960 rated and he takes the easy win in Am Grand every chance he can.   ;D

I'm going to compete for the obelisk next year Tom.  I might even take an Innova sponsored trip to the Memorial, play Advanced, and get off to a fast start!

I am still putting the over/under at 11,777.  I don't think it will be hit, but I do think that there is another 1000 points out there available for the guys to go after. Dave is picking up 180 for IOS#4, and MT is getting 120 for the same event. Taylor has got another 56 in the bank from the Michigan State Championships.

Taylor took 3rd out of 15 for the Channahon tournament, that's a B-Tier, not sure what the final # of points would be there.  I submitted the TD report today, so all of my stuff will be up to date by the next ratings update.

Justin (Atwater-Taylor) had a great season and is a good guy. I never want to lose and I went in to the year wanting to win, but he's a very deserving person.

At Wildcat Springs, they took pictures of the top three finishers in each division during the awards.  The second place finisher (Chad Nelson, I think) held up a sign that said "Bagger" and an arrow pointing at Justin, which he didn't see until after the picture was taken.  When he saw it, he laughed like the rest of us.  He also said he is now moving up.

Hey, the guy gets to go on tour with Avery Jenkins.  Thats tough to beat.  He said he's going to South Carolina to try shoot the qualifying rounds and attempt to play the USDGC.  He obviously has some time and money in the bank.

Tom, your over/under was on the high side there.  Nobody went all out and played 30+ events this year to try to buy a little obelisk trophy.  The economy might have something to do with that.

Depending on what happens at Homies I am considering going to the A tier in California the week after and the A tier in Florida a month later. We shall see....

Those tourneys only had 34 and 21 advanced players last year.  Granted, the Florida event was only a B tier last year.  It would be cheaper to organize B tier (advanced division only) events at West Park every Saturday until you catch up.

Last year Chad Inman played 22 events and had 11,655 points.  I thought 11, 777 was a pretty reasonable number.

Bruce Brakel

The points obelisk is a world championship trophy.  If you have to go to California and Florida to win it, then you have to go to Florida and California.   :wav:

After this weekend Dave Nelson is 295 points behind the Am Open leader.  He has a decent shot at catching the leader.

By my count, it looks like Dave Nelson is 108 points behind the leader for the Advanced Points title going into this weekend.  It appears that Justin has moved to Pro and is not playing any more Am events.

Even if Dave is the top finisher this weekend he is going to have to do some traveling.  Looks like Cold Turkey is full, and a top finish would give Dave 105 points.

Scott how about one more event?

Chainmeister

If he throws the Diabetic Invitational lets make it a low entry, no payout event and all play advanced.  We can get Dave over the hump. Of course, he will still have to hit the chains.

Bruce Brakel

There used to be tournaments called Points Bonanza.  Super low entry fees and everyone just played for ratings and points.  With 20 players and a free course, you only need a $5 entry fee.  And then you offer just one amateur division, Advanced.

Through Cold Turkey IV, Dave Nelson is 53 points back. Lake Bluff to Toledo: Four hours 45 minutes.   l  Lake Bluff to Dexter Michigan:  four hours 37 minutes. These times don't include the time change.  Add another hour to each.

Or Dave could head down to Tyler Tx to the Piney Woods Open.  Last year there were 30 advanced players and 148 players overall.  This one event would put Dave over the top.

Dave has got some decisions to make and some work to do.
