Good luck to club member Tafe Hemler.

Just an interesting note: For the first time in the history of the event, Am Nationals filled this year and turned away players.

At tee off it was 55 degrees with bright sunshine and light breezes.

Tournament Note II:

This was also the year they made a mockery of the qualification process by opening up entry to anyone of a certain player rating who has an extra few bucks to kick in.  I hope they apologize to folks who took the time to enter and play a qualifying event over the past few months.

That said, they did fill at least.

I may get out there on Sunday with my camera, but I might be at the DGLO, depends on where there's a battle.  My legs are tired already from thinking about those hills.

Please.  If you want to kick in an extra few bucks you've never had to play a qualifying event.  You can show up early and shoot a 'qualifying round' in which you have to shoot like a 850 rated round to get in the tourney.  Thats great that they filled and hopefully inspires them to continue running the event for years to come.  Its the best amateur only event in the world, by far, and one of the best events period.

I don't think anyone got in by shooting 850 qualifying rounds this year.  The qualifying process, for the first time ever, was a genuine qualifying process because not every player shooting a qualifying round got in.  They had over 50 players attempt to qualify over the past three days and less than 40 were allowed in by that process.

I don't think letting in players rated over 940 made a mockery of the qualifying process.  Certainly it let more players in.  It limited the pool to Advanced players and excluded many players who wanted to play.  I probably would have played if they had drawn the line at 939.

Then the qualifying this year was actually more difficult this year, definitely not a mockery.  In past years I remember a female going out there and hacking out some well below 900 rated score and 'qualifying'.

Good luck to Discontinuum club members Taylor Cimala, Dave Nelson, Scott Reek, Matt Rogers, and Matt Travis.

With the top rated players having the early tee times, the important scores are coming in or are in.  Taylor leading the discontinumm members with a solid 60 only 3 shots out of the lead - currently held by BG Am Champ Blaine Kinkel.  Dave is 1 shot back of Taylor, Matt Travis 1 back of Dave, Scott with a respectable 64.  Rodgers, Brenholtz, and Tafe all still on the course.  Rodgers has the d to do well at Toboggan and Chris has been playing hot lately.

Replying to Dan, they did that once, and then changed the week-of qualifying rules to include a requirement that the player be rated at least 875 and shoot a round rated at least 915 based on the rounds shot by all the players during the week of qualifying.

Only two women have gotten into this tournament, one by the wide open week-of qualifying, and one by being the highest rated PDGA member in her state not to qualify at a qualifier.  Her state, Alaska, only had two PDGA members, and the other, her husband, qualified at a qualifier.  Kelsey wants to be the first woman to qualify for this tournament at a qualifier.

If live socring is correct and so is my math, it looks like Taylor caught Blaine and is tied for the lead. Go Taylor!

Someone would have to light it up from the second card to win it.. (Isn't that what happened last year?)
