2009 First Class Challenge NT & A-Tier

The Des Moines Disc Golf Club and First Class Credit Union are proud to present to you the 2009 First Class Challenge. The National Tour returns to Des Moines and will be contested over 3 days with 5 rounds being played on 5 courses ........... The Ultimate Challenge!!!

The 2009 First Class Challenge we be held July 17-19, one week prior to the 2009 Pro/Am Worlds in Kansas City. We cannot think of a better event to prepare you for Worlds as the First Class Challenge will be contested on 5 of the courses used in the 2004 Pro/Am Wolrds. Des Moines proximity to Kansas City (about 3 hours) makes the event convenient as well as economical for those traveling to Kansas City for Worlds. The 2009 First Class Challenge will be one of the highlights on the national tour schedule and one not to miss.

The tournament director turned in the TD report in less than 3 months.

Besides the great courses there was a very nice booklet that had all the tourney information.  There was a nice player's party one night.  Everything ran very smooth, there didn't seem to be any delays or misinformation.  The player's pack was nice.  The TDs were great and always gracious.  They were never didactic or condescending.

It was my feeling that the TDs were as respectful to the AMs as they were to the Pros.  It didn't hurt that the weather was great.  It was one of my favorite events last year.

And yes, they were able to get the TD reports in to the PDGA in less than 3 months.

I'm not challenging anyone's opinion or about to say anything bad about the tournament.  I just always like to know what people are liking about a tournament they liked.

Thanks for the props ...... we try our hardest to make the tournament the best experience possible so feedback like this spreads like wildfire and the tournament becomes bigger and better each and every year.

The main reason for this event being very AM friendly is due in large part that our staff and TD's are, for the most part, well seasoned AM's. We have all travelled to tournaments, small and large, great and not so great. We have built the Challenge from our experiences and know what doesn't work and what is sought after. Most large events cater to the Pro's ...... we on the other hand think the event should be enjoyed by all. Seeing how the added cash goes to the Pro's we aim to please the AM's with very nice players packs and a memorable experience with other activities, like a family friendly prizapalooza players party.

We would concur that we have some of the best courses in the country and this alone is a great reason to attend the Challenge. We also know that other areas are developing into DG destinations with world class courses so we take the extra step to make the event about more than the courses.

I played the 2004 Worlds and the Challenge in 2006. The courses are absolutely fantastic and well worth the trip. The fact that you get to play 5 rounds on 5 of the best courses in the country is awesome. Both events were very well run and I have nothing but good things to say about Des Moines. I wish it were closer and it's unlikely i'll be there this year. I definitely playing Worlds adn it's just too close together.

If I had a top 10 list of the 170+ courses I've played, Ewing Park and Walnut Ridge would both be on there.  Then you've got Big Creek and PIckard which will both bust you up as much as any course you can play.  Those are 5 disc golf courses I'd kill to play every week.  Maybe I should move to Des Moines.

If I was not going to Kansas City the next week I'd go to Des Moines.  Unfortunately I have a finite number of vacation days.
