Thanks Serg, Paul and everyone involved today. Good times for the most part.  ;)

Parkside is a great course; I miss a couple of the old holes but the new ones have their own character and maybe more than make up for the old ones. The pin placement for #13 this weekend is brutal but not 'unfair'. (I think it's 13; long, long and right...)

You'll have a better idea on #20 if you review the scores on that hole, but I hope there's not a big backup on Sunday if it's windy! Next year maybe you should allow a drop zone after the 2nd OB drive, say. I was lucky (or maybe smart? nah) enough to deuce it both times, but I know that someone went OB 5 straight times and wound up with a 13. Granted, he could have laid up after maybe the 3rd try, but it still seems overly punitive to retee, esp when it's windy, although not overly windy by Parkside standards.

Again, it didn't affect me directly, but it does seem a bit over the top.

Glad I made it this year, hope I can make it next year... (I hope I can be anywhere next year....  :P )
thanks,
Damon

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

Dan Michler

I'm not sure if this is Sergio's 1st time as a TD, but he did a good job on Saturday.  Things moved along nicely and we were out of there after awards by around 5pm I believe.

I enjoyed the course layout as this was my 1st time playing the redesign, but I do miss the old holes.  Hole 13 was a brutal hole that you could easily take a 3 or a 5.  Hole 12 right before it was a great par 3.  Hole 20 was a simple 200 footer with nothing in your way, but some tight OB and heavy wind caused some problems for alot of folks (including myself as I took a 5 there the 2nd rd, hurtful!).  I think if you look at the spread of scores on each hole you'll see there was a good variety which is the sign of a good course to me.  Alot of opps to make up strokes on your competitors.

I had a great time at this even teven though I was shooting that great. First round a disgusting 74, cleaned it up a little bit in the second round with a 65.

Thanks Serge, Josh, Carla and everybody including an army of spotters for running a great tournament. I won won of Barret's Coyotes with a Micky Mouse design in the raffle. Thanks Barrett.

Stan made the shot of the day on the first woods hole, #6 in round two. He missed his line and went throgh a thicket of trees in the direction of the basket on a hole that is a sharp lefty dogleg. He hit nothing and was parked for a deuce. Throw? I don't think he could walk that route again without hitting a tree or three.

Definitely seen many circles on the scorecard for this hole and I did see some higher numbers...the person who threw the 13 on the hole told me he was not too fond of it and wanted to know whose idea it was. The hole was decided upon by a few people; initially it was going to go behind the trees. Long story short, you never how the wind is going blow on this course. The decision to retee was to simulate a hole that would test a player's decision to "play the course." I watched my lovely wife take a 9 on that hole (thougth for sure I was sleeping on the couch last night). I know we're no where near the caliber and layout of a course like Winthrop University but holes #3 and #17 play similar. I remember watching Avery take a 7 on #3 with the same rules, retee if you go OB. This was my attempt to test the concept. I thought this was a better hole to try it rather than making #5 an island hole (which still may be seen next year  >:D )

As I get time to look over the scorecards again I will post to see the average score...the range was obviously 2 through 13.

Thank you to all who came out to support hte event. Discontinuum had a great group of supporters on both days.

Results have been posted for both days. I had to adjust the course layout for yesterday's afternoon rounds and the unofficial ratings did change.

Serg,

There is no reason you should feel bad about the decision to have the OB & retee rule on that hole. There were many options a player could make. Instead of a 13 they could have thrown a putter 120ft, putter 120ft, and putter tap in and take a 3.

Thanks for the hard work!

Really enjoyed the Prairie Open, rec style... Loved hole 20.  I like any hole that has a little risk reward and forces you to make a good shot.  I understand the wind was alot more swift on Saturday but the players playing were also more skilled.  You can't control the wind but a good hole is a good hole.  It seems like any hole with OB there will be one or two players that take a high number and then want to bitch at the TD...,.

Thanks Serg, the WiDye team, and all those spotters for a quality event.  Couldn't ask for better golf....

I don't feel bad. I think it was a good hole. I know when I played it messing around I only had one of my three shots land in bounds...and I didn't take a 2.

And I know Damon wasn't complainig (  ??? ) but I thought I would just address the question/concern.

I know Dan mentioned it and he is correct, this was my first sanctioned event and I plan to do nothing but learn from it. I've played some great events and have learned what is liked, disliked and completely disgusted. I think the IOS has been great with getting scores and unofficial ratings up quickly. I tried to make sure I had scores up quickly and think that worked well. Alot of things that I've definitely taken for granted for on the TD side of things...I don't know how TD's run and play an event at the same time.

Sorry to the groups on Sunday who didn't have a spotter on hole #1. There was supposed to be someone there, and I won't mention his/her name, but he/she didn't make it out there. Hope no one had a terrible time on that hole.

not at all. I actually didn't have trouble on that hole, and as Brett said you certainly have the option to just pooch it out there.

Again, great job on the tournament.

I think disc golfers need more holes like this. There are way too many disc golfers that think that the way to lower score is always a straight line from the tee to the basket. You have to learn to play within your limits and make good decisions. It doesn't make any sense to try to save one throw on shot that you will only make 1 out of 4 times...but you see guys do it all the time!

ahhh yaa. ummm. yaaa..  I resemble that remark..  The Fat Abby Irish Red at Schaub's did me in, the night before.

BTW on hole #6 going to the right side threw the woods is a local route... Serg has that route perfected.
Let us hope that the whores of evil no longer loiter on the doorsteps of your path beckoning you into the brothel of despair, and that here and after may present them with the most rigid manistfestation of a firm and manly will.

Shawn- Thanks for spotting on Saturday.  Also thanks to Paul, Dave, Carla, Josh, Adrian Sr. Serg, and all the others that I haven't included for all the hard work.  It was a great weekend.  The course is looking very nice.  Having spotters was very helpful and kept the round running smooth.  Routing 18 in the other direction, along with holes 19 and 20 made for a nice flow. Hole #13 is brutal in that pin position.

Again- thank you for a great event.
