What do you throw for your roller discs, forehand/backhand if you roll at all  ;D.  I've been tryin to get some good rollers goin, my best was with a SUPER UNDERSTABLE Pro Wraith (that should be an oxy moron right? It is beat up tho) 167 little over 300 feet.  It seemed because of the understability or something that it turned hard right at the end after it had been heading for the target the whole time.  Do I need to to play the roll as in play the fade?  I've found forehand rollers go right then left and backhand rollers go left then right.  I assume rollers should be understable?  I see lots of people use dx leopards.  Am I making any sense at all? lol?  ??? ;D

There are 2 different types of backhand rollers (assuming a righthanded player).

#1 Take a stable driver and bring it straight over the top at almost 12 o'clock to force it onto the ground at the desired angle.  A stable disc will hold the line you put it on and push left to the end.

#2  Take an understable disc and throw a normal backhand shot that results in the disc hitting the ground on an angle.  A really understable disc should stand up straight and eventually turn over and curl off to the right.

The #2 type of roller is probably a little easier on your body and you may find more consistency.  I'd suggest finding a really beat-up driver to play around with ( i have used beat up DX stingrays and DX leopards, I've seen professionals throw roadrunners for this type of shot).  For the #1 type shot, I've seen people use Teebirds, Eagles, Wraiths, Destroyers, Orcs, and whatever else.  I would just use the stable drivers you already have and just experiment until you get comfortable with something.  The roller shot just takes practice to find consistency, as in any other type of shot.  When you get comfortable with it, you'll find its a very useful shot to take alot of trouble out of play and advance your disc safely.

Sidewinder is a good volunteer roller. Throw it like you're throwing a good stable driver and it will stand up and start rolling for you.

Dan summarized it pretty well. If you want your Pro Wraith to not tail off a much in the end, play around with the angle that you set it down at. Winds also play a factor in your roll. Assuming you're right handed and you throw a backhand roller, a headwind will make it stand up and tail off faster, a tail wind will keep it in a straight line longer. A left to right cross wind (pushing against the belly of the disc) will also keep the roller more stable and will make it more resistant to the turn in the end. A right to leftt cross wind (pushing against the top of the disc) will cause the disc to turn over a lot sooner. A left to right  cross wind or a tail wind seems to be the ideal wind for throwing distance rollers.

I started practicing roller with putters and it helped me learn to shape different lines with them. When I became comfortable rolling putters out to about 300-320 I started practicing throwing rollers with my Teebirds and Valkyries. I can get those out to about 420-440 now with some help of the wind. Just get out there and practice. Don't be afraid of the wind. Learn what it does to your lines.

The Flash works well too.

I remember seeing Bingman roll a DX Beast about 500' at Edgebrook, but he can probably roll just about anything that far...
thanks,

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

Most of the round discs roll pretty well.

haha true that

I'll use my stratus now for rolling.  It just gets up and keeps on going.
I recall the old stingrays were the shit to use for rolling!   Untill they rolled into a tree  ^_^
