2010 is going to be an AWESOME year! The IOS staff has been overworked the past few years and we considered eliminating the series. Instead of doing so we've added some very hard working TD's to take over several legs. This will allow bigger events and several new venues. This year includes an A-Tier and five B-Tiers. This is going to be the biggest and best season for the IOS! The A-Tier is going to be HUGE as it's a Pro Worlds Warm Up. Sinnissippi was a permier event in Illinois last year. Fox Valley Metro and Mike Krupicka are stepping up to run Oswego as a B-Tier. Scott Pitner of Paper or Plastic Sports dot com is running a B-Tier in Channahon and Streamwood. Along with those 5 the series will include several other solid events. This is going to be a great season and we look forward to seeing you on the course.

Any player with any skill level is welcome. Come hang out with people who love disc golf. All tournaments are run according to PDGA rules.
Check out the rules-> http://www.pdga.com/rules
We are running these events to educate new players and promote the game of disc golf. We run excellent tournaments for Amateur players of all skill levels. We had some of the largest Advanced, Intermediate,Recreational, and Novice divisions in the state as well as female participation.

____________________________________________________________________

FORMAT
Check each website for times.
The lunch break will end 1 hour from the last card being turned in. Don't be late. We will get started on time.
The awards ceremony will start as soon as possible.
A minimum of 100% payout to all divisions.
We usually throw in 2nd round CTP's if the event has average to above average attendance.
We know many of you travel & have a life outside of disc golf. We will do our best to get you on the road as early as possible.

____________________________________________________________________

TROPHY ONLY

What is trophy only?
You may pay the trophy only entry fee and play the event. You are playing for a trophy only. If you finish in a position that is awarded a trophy you get the trophy. You do not get a payout if you finish in a prize/cash finishing position.

Why play trophy only?
You may play trophy only for several reasons.
1. Tired of not having a chance to finish in a cashing spot at events? Save a few bucks and play trophy only.
2. Want to test the field and move up a division without paying the full fee? Save a few bucks and play trophy only.
3. Want to try to hit an ace when the ace pool rolls over & it's $750.00? Play both days in a division you wouldn't normally play.

Do I get a player pack when I play trophy only?
If you are playing in an amateur division you get a player pack. If you are playing in a pro division you do not get a player pack.
Along with the player pack you also get a chance to shoot for any CTP on the course.

Can I win CTP's?
Yes, you can participate in all the CTP's that are offered to your division.

SERIES POINTS

This series is set up for fun and competition. Overall champions win a trophy and bragging rights. If you play any day of the 2010 Illinois Open Series you are automatically entered into the series. It costs no extra fee to enter the series. There will be no deductions from tournament payouts to pay for overall series champion trophies. See trophy payouts below.

Points only count in the division in which they are earned. For example, if Bruce plays Advanced at the first event and receives 12 points then plays advanced masters at the next event and earns 12 points, he does not have a total of 24 points. He would have 12 points in advanced and 12 points in advanced masters.

Participants will be awarded one point for each tournament entered and one point for each player they beat in their division.

A player who DNFs (Does Not Finish), will receive 0 (zero) points for that tournament.

Overall points will be calculated from best 5 of 9 events. Players must play in a minimum of four events to be considered competing for series points. The A-tier (IOS #2) will be worth double points.

OVERALL SERIES TROPHIES
TBD

____________________________________________________________________

SERIES ACE POOL

Ace Pool is open all day.

Multiple aces are split.

All ace pools that are not hit will rollover to the next day or event.

We may cap the ace as it grows during the year.

If there is money remaining at the end of the series that money will be rolled over to 2011.

____________________________________________________________________

PAYOUTS

PDGA charts will be followed for payouts to all divisions.

Funny money is paid out to all amateur divisions except Juniors. Juniors get a $15.00 player pack and play for a trophy only.

All Pro's play for cash.

Payout Policy: Cash and prizes, including CTPs, not claimed during the awards ceremony are donated to the tournament process, unless other arrangements have been made with the TD that day.

Event trophies are hand made or dyed trophy discs. They are quite simplistic and represent what place you finish if you win one. This is done to keep the payouts fatter instead of purchasing more expensive trophies that are just as lame and weaken the payouts.

Hope everyone is getting excited for the 2010 IOS Series!  If you haven't seen the tour listing yet - be sure to go to the Tour Forum here and open the PDF in the first post for all of the details.  I'm sure Brett or somebody will start posting more about each individual event.  There are 8 events this year, all at least an AM-B/Pro-C and even one A-Tier!  I believe it's 1 A-Tier, 3 B-Tier, and 4 C/B-TIer.

If you haven't already heard, Paper or Plastic Sports will be your friendly neighborhood merchant at all 8 of these IOS events.  So find that funny money and don't lose it!  I look forward to serving the disc golf community this year, and I hope to continue to have high quality merchandise at each and every tournament.

One question that I do have for everybody would be your opinion on the stamped discs.  I know that Bruce in the past has had one central "IOS" themed disc that would represent the entire season, and then he would have a different stamp for the individual tournament.  Since you guys get to pick out your own player pack and prizes, what do YOU want to see?  There are always a couple people that are interested in a tournament disc, but never enough to warrant the minimum 50-100 discs that you have to order (and to make it worthwhile to me order I usually would want to get 200-300).  Would a 2010 IOS that encompasses the entire series be cool enough?  Is that even needed?  Right now I'm considering a season long disc that I can reorder if needed along with a custom disc for the A-Tier.  I would order a fair share from both Discraft and Innova... sorry at this time I do not carry DGA.

I look forward to a great 2010 IOS Series!

I think an IOS 2010 all encompassing stamp is a good idea.  And a seperate one for the A tier.  Once you or whoever comes up with a stamp, I think it is cool that it would be posted beforehand so you can make sure people like the stamp or whatever.   If I am right in that you want to make orders of 200-300 discs at a time, it's probably a lot easier to have one stamp for all tourneys.  So if you had a seperate stamp for all 8 then you'd order 200+ discs each time?!?!  That seems like a lot to me but I'm sure you know the #s better than I do.

me personally I prefer Stock stamp discs unless u get the big star design that says IOS on it that will be cool lol

smyith

what about something more unique like a bottom stamp tournament disc?

stpitner

I don't know if they offer bottom stamping for tournament discs.

As far as the ordering - typically with ordering the 200, by the end of the tournament I would expect 40-50 to go via cash or funny money leaving me to sell the rest post tournament online or wherever else - it's usually better to go via stock.

Typically I do simplistic stamp designs.  People generally like them, but consistently making different good looking designs isn't always easy.  Depending on how soon I get them done I can post them up to see if people like it or not.

I am going over the tournament schedule and there are multiple 2 day tournaments this year.  Are they 2 day 4 rounds or just single days 2 rounds multiple divisions?  If its single day tournaments how do you know when open plays and am plays?  I can't seem to find where it list what division play on what days....

pickax

You can tell on pdga.com if the tournament is a one day or two day. IOS #2 is an A-tier and will be a two day / four round event. All other IOS events are two round tournaments. Most of these are split day events (except for IOS#4 at Bevier which is a one day event). Last year IOS events have been split with MPO,MA2,MA4 on Saturday with all other divisions on Sunday.

That what I assumed but what I really need to know (so I can plan) is what is the set format?  Open sat or Sun?  I know last year some were flip flopped, is there any way to find this out?

IOS#1 on Saturday will have the added ace pool cash from the last 2009 event. I need to look it up in the cash box and post. It's at least $100 :)

I added flyers (or do you "say" fliers?) to Brett's #1 post in this thread. There are two PDF files (you must be logged in to see them). The "IOS series and A tier flyer.pdf" has two flyers in it. One an overall flyer for the series with emphasis on the A tier. The other flyer is specifically for the A tier. The "IOS individual tournament flyers.pdf" contains a flyer for each individual IOS leg in the series (except for the A tier). I made these to post at the individual courses and close by courses that don't have an IOS. These can also be effective to hand out at other tournaments in the weeks immediately before the tournament.

Please be responsible when posting these. I don't think I've had a compaint call about an IOS flyer since 2003 but just a reminder. I always appreciate people printing these and handing them out and posting them!

the part where it says series points will be the Best ___ of ___ tournaments is missing the two blanks.  I'm going to try to make all of the IOS tourneys again this year, but I was just wondering out of how many tourneys will points be taken?
