Springfield IL courses?

I'll be traveling down I-55 through Springfield this weekend and I may have time to stop for a round of golf. Can anyone comment on the relative merits of Lincoln Park and Douglas Park?

If you only have time for 1 of the 2 Lincoln is a no brainer. It's a great course.

Was down there over Halloween weekend.  Played all 3 courses.  Lincoln Park is definitely the stopping point.  Lincoln Park - South is a solid course.  Lincoln Park - North baskets are in, blue/white tees were marked with flags.  Both were solid challenges.  Did prefer the The South course though for more reasons than cement teepads.  More terrian changes although the North course did have some really well placed baskets.  2 18 holes, one stop.  Douglas park was decent as well, play up and down a couple of hills.  Hard to tell which basket to throw at times so I started teeiing off at all the possibilities.  But go to Lincoln if you stop for one.

Also, the little 9 hole in Litchfield in closed until April 11th, incase you are tempted to stop.  We did and snuck over there (parked at the american legion and walked across the bridge),but did get chased out by the police.  They were cool about it, but just a heads up.

Thanks for the information. I'm headed to Saint Louis for the weekend so maybe I can catch Lincoln on the way down and Douglas on the way back. The last thing I wanted was to start a debate between Lincoln and Douglas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln%E2%80%93Douglas_debates_of_1858).

Ron,

   If you get a chance skip Douglas and play Alton Rock Springs Park. You won't be disappointed. I saw they have recently installed cement tee pads.

I was planning on playing Lincoln  as I have played most of all the other courses close to my in laws house

Thanks for the suggestions. I played Lincoln on the way down and really enjoyed it. I'm partial to hilly parks with mature trees. It looks like they are installing a second course in the North end of the park.

On Saturday, my brother and I played Sioux Passage in the morning and went over to Alton Rock Springs in the afternoon. Rock Springs was a great suggestion Brett. Right now the Rock Springs course is strung with Christmas lights and covered with leaves so negotiating the course was interesting.
