This Thursday, May 9th, we will be having a brief 1/2-hour meeting at Bevier Park - after Best Shot - at the first tee. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make this meeting if you can - even if you can't play leagues. The World's Biggest and Widdershins are less than 1 month away and we really need to address some issues, like:

-t-shirts

-players' packages

-raffles

-signs

-sponsors

-advertising

-food

-course preparation

-prizes

If you cannot be at this meeting, please email me your ideas or comments so that we can incorporate them into our brainstorming. Jim will bring some pop and chips for your post-round refreshement.

THANKS!

I may be able to be at the meeting... I'm up by the Dells now, but might be done with work up here Thursday during the day sometime, hopefully with a large enough time window that I can drive back to Waukegan in time for leagues.

I agree that ordering 40 is better than 50, although the extras could always be attempted to be sold at the Widdershins (okay, essentially same event) or Blast... or of course, there is always the eventual need for CTP prizes.... Now, getting on to your tirade about the WPD.....

"they are not enthusiastic about spending any more money on us after those outrageously expensive alternate tee markers, which already need repainting."

I suppose I can understand them wanting to wait a little while before spending any more money on course improvements; although they spent what, $36 for the 2" concrete rounds plus another $10 in spraypaint for the numbering? And they ALREADY need repainting!?!?!??? Holy shit, I'm sure we could do something that sticks better with a bunch of sharpies! ](

"the WPD will not put up a bulletin board, as previously said, but will allow us to do it, maybe. If it is not a hazard or ugly or misused, etc."

Fine. If we will be allowed to build one & put a cover and lock on it so at worst (other than distruction) it will be tagged by the disc golf haters. I figure the side of the tennis courts is as good a place as any....

"The WPD also will not allow any warning signs anywhere, anytime."

Okay to this one as well... we'll just have to be reeeeal careful about not hitting any more soccer players with 170g sharp-edged hard plastic objects traveling in excess of 40mph. Apparently this is why they wanted us to carry insurance...  [img="http://www.rafansrule.org/ubb/icons/icon23.gif"]

"The WPD also nixed the garbage cans because they "are not needed" and "don't fit the theme at Bevier"."The WPD also nixed the garbage cans because they "are not needed" and "don't fit the theme at Bevier".

I suppose we could give them this one... Trash isn't a huge problem @ Bevier, however if someone sees a garbage can close to them they will be more likely to deposit their trash in the appropriate location than just dropping or throwing it. Of course, if the club continues to grow & there are more people playing the course more often, trash could become a problem... And won't it be fun if/when the WPD comes back & says they've rethought what they said about the trash cans?

"The WPD MAY or MAY NOT get time to spread out the wood chips on the wooded holes."

This is utter bullshit. And I'm sorry to say so... I'm sure that if the parks were to be so kind as to provide the wood chips, we can get the resources to put them down ourselves. I just hope that Trigg doesn't have a cow when he learns that we've been driving pickup trucks through the park so we don't have to wheelbarrow loads of chips from the parking lot.

If the soccer players pay to be there, then so be it. It is a public park, and if they somehow are forced to pay WPD to practice/play there, then I guess its their loss. Of course, we could use the soccer players' practice areas as some type of OB....

Of course, if they pay to be at the park, one could assume that they probably have scheduled practice dates/times? If so, perhaps we could move our league day (yeah it sucks, but its also apparently only for the summer) to a different weekday/night to avoid conflicts.

I think that we should be able to put warning signs by the baskets for 2 & 9, if only to try to minimize the possibility of us nailing the good soccer players who pay to play....

Indeed it is a new day, however I think we can afford to still be a little pissed off at them, regardless of what little they've done for us so far... After all, they promised all kinds of things to us, hell they essentially promised you the moon! When it came time to deliver, however, they gave us a chunk of cheese.

Will they ever update the course map @ the park to reflect the added tee areas? My guess is not, unless we are suddenly now responsible for updating the map as well since it was our asking for the tees to be added and we are responsible for maintaining them...

Alright, time to be a little less stormy...

I think the sounds of putting on some kind of private corporate event will be good for raising capital & awareness of the club. What kind of baskets would they rent? Is it even possible to rent baskets from somewhere, or are you thinking of renting out the homemade stuff?

If it does happen in July, I don't know how much I'd be able to participate (baby time), however I'd be happy to give up my m-14 for a day or two for this.

Cool!  My meeting with Mike and Scott from Waukegan Park District has been postponed by them . . . again. I pushed for meeting tomorrow afternoon so we can move on making firm plans when we meet after Best Shot. Hope to see you there!

Jim,.... go to http://godiscgolf.com  There are preset score cards ....

Brett - I visited the site and liked it - a refreshing way to do a website! You are the king of finding resources online!  But I already made and printed scorecards for the WB, Widdershins, and summer Best Shot, all with our logo.

Do you think you might make it after leagues tomorrow night?

Sorry about that angry rambling. I am better now.

General consensus was to just order discs and shirts from World's Biggest - it is a little cheaper and easier than to piecemeal the players' packages.  We can iron-on our name/logo on the backs of the shirts. Also, I  am ordering 40 packages instead of the 50 we spoke of at the meeting.  If we have more than 40 participants, we can get their address and send them a package later. If we have more shirts/discs than needed, we cannot sell them back to WB since everyone else already had their events; so I tried to minimize our losses.  OK?

jim

The general gist (settle down, Billy) of the meeting was that the WPD is happy to have a relationship with us (although Mike Trigg has blown me off or postponed 4 times since Spetember) but they are not enthusiastic about spending any more money on us after those outrageously expensive alternate tee markers, which already need repainting. Also, the WPD will not put up a bulletin board, as previously said, but will allow us to do it, maybe. If it is not a hazard or ugly or misused, etc.  The WPD also will not allow any warning signs anywhere, anytime. The WPD also nixed the garbage cans because they "are not needed" and "don't fit the theme at Bevier".  The WPD MAY or MAY NOT get time to spread out the wood chips on the wooded holes.  The WPD also prefers that we move any alternate markers that are not correct; they are our responsibility, which is just fine.  The WPD also said that all (yes, ALL) the soccer players at Bevier PAY TO BE THERE. Yes, even those who practice on our fairways, according to Scott MacLean, so, even though our curse is permanent, marked, and well-used, we must share the entire park because it is a public place - AND THE SOCCER PLAYERS PAY TO BE THERE.  What a frigging crock of poop!  I believe he was looking to shake us down for cash.  They can shake my *&%^)$ instead.  Our World's Biggest Event isn't even listed in their June Is Parks Month Calendar of Events yet.  And that was why we moved the event from May to June in the first place.

Mike Trigg and Scott MacLean have helped us, but without enthusiasm and without quality.  So screw 'em.  We will continue on as planned without their participation.  Although I am hopeful we can re-build our relationship (why it crumbled is a mystery) at some point, let's just focus on having fun and putting on good leagues and tourneys.

If you want more specific info, call me and we'll talk.

jim

Oh yeah, if people are up for it, we can have a casual random-draw doubles round for $3 or $5, winners take all, except for $1 per person off the top to go to the club. Or not. Whatever. Just trying to keep things fun and a little cash for the club. What do you think?

Also, as for what Bill wrote . . . if I ripped off all my clothes, do you think anyone would stay around to see what I did next?  Not even the geese . . . . . . ;-p

jim

Well, today is a new day, with new opportunities and new challenges.  Let's simply move forward as we have been, and be thankful for what the WPD has done for us.  If they choose to be helpful again, it will come as an unexpected treat.  If not, we have lost nothing.  Each of you are doing good and positive things for our club, and nothing will tarnish that fact in my mind (except massive amounts of drugs and alcohol).

OK, I'm sounding a little goofy, because today my mood was lifted when I received an email from a marketing corporation asking us to possibly facilitate a corporate disc golf event on the CEO's private estate in July. What an opportunity!  The specifics are not available yet, but the interest is real.  They are interested in renting baskets for the day and possibly setting up a temp course on this guy's property.  They found us through the website and seemed impressed.  Keep your fingers crossed!!!  I will provide details as they become available.  Also, I would like the Ops Committee to give me some initial feedback on this.  THANKS!

jim

I am waiting for more specific info from the marketing agency before I committ anything or anyone, but I am very hopeful that this will be a great opportunity and potentially a springboard to other stuff!

Please let me know if you would like to participate in this event!!!!  It is planned for Friday, July 19th from 2pm-10pm in Barrington Hills.

jim

Ooops.  Sorry, Mr. Moderator.

I uess I just like you better when you wear that crazy hat.

jim

How about Tuesday, June 11th at 6pm at Bevier?

Jim,

I can't make this one unless we have a rainout. Only 2 more weeks till baseball is over then disc golf mania begins.
