I have set up another work day for Saturday April 26, 2003. We'll start @ 8:00AM again. We plan on completing tees #1-12. We are also going to spread wood chips around the rest of the baskets that we missed the first time. Wood chips will be spread on holes #7, 8, 15, 16, & 17. Please bring tools. Rakes, shovels, & wheel barrows. We need all the help we can get. Please spread the word & forward this message.

Thanks

Aww man.... I had heard rumors you were married but never got to see proof. And of course it has to be the day I'm not gonna be there...

:'(
Don't forget your towel!

jim

I'll be there with tools and teenager as before.

jim

THANKS, BRUCE!!!  What a generous guy!

BTW, Since we'll prob be doing chip work, wheelbarrows and large buckets will be good things to bring.

jim

Cool. Brett just called me from the course (Fri morning about 10am) and said that there will be a RLPD worker there named Ed who will have a Bobcat there for quick and easy hauling!

I should get to fairfield about 8am. maybe 8:30.

jim

Carrie showed up right about 11:30 with some huge subs and pop. THANKS CARRIE and BRUCE!

Too bad only FIVE of us got to wolf it all down.

Jon Brakel, Madissen Brakel, Jon's friend Mike, myself, and Ed from the RLPD worked our butts off and got all scheduled work completed. The new crushed limestone is wonderful - feels great and will only get better as it gets packed down. Tees 1-11 (at least) are done.

Rob Schoenhoft showed up for a while and helped with a few chips. The bobcat was indispensible! I believe all baskets now have wood chips around them, some fairways also have wood chips on the usually muddy parts.

jim

That kinda works for me. I'm was going to suggest we do Bevier that day as well.  Maybe we should just ask everyone to leave the entire weekend free if possible so they can be free to work at both/either courses.

The more people that show up, the faster the work gets done!

Can you please post if you plan to attend. There will be pizza & pop for all who attend.

Just went to the RLAPD office & talked to Keith. He said that they are going to order another basket to replace #3. They cannot find it. I think it was stolen anyway. He also said he'd call me before they did their first mowing so we could strategically mow.

The park district started some of the prep work today. They will be out Thursday & Friday as well.

Jim is correct! I talked to Ed this morning. I told him to come around 8:30AM on Saturday. He will have the Bobcat. He seemed very nice & I told him we would need limestone & wood chips moved around. Just tell him what you need.

Here is what I did this morning. I raked & leveled all tee pads with the small crushed limestone. I also started lining the path from #7 to #8 & the #8 fairway with dead wood. I also raked a lot of debri off the fairway. Doesn't seem like much but that took me 3 hours.

Here is what needs to be done tomorrow. They filled #4 tee pad with too much big gravel. Have Ed Dig 1/2 of the big gravel out & dump it into #10 teepad which has no big gravel. He then can fill both of those with the small crushed limestone. #11 also needs to be filled with the small crushed limestone.# 7 & #9 need a little more limestone added. I would have 2 guys work with Ed to get the tee pads done first. It should only take a half hour or so. The small limestone is very easy to rake & with Ed moving it around with the Bobcat, it shouldn't take too long. That should take care of tees #1-12.

The rest of the crew can start on the wood chips. Baskets #7, 12, 14, 15, 16, & 17 all need wood chips around them. #7 fairway needs more wood chips. #8 fairway needs wood chips & path to #9. Holes # 15, 16 & 17 fairways need to be lined with dead wood & wood chips spread. If we run out of wood chips, there is a pile over by #1 that can be moved by Ed. The course is slowly improving!

I want to schedule a Saturday in May that we can complete the tee work & get more wood chips done. Please let me know what weekend would be good. I would prefer a weekend in late May since baseball seasons ends on the 21st. It would be nice to get 14-20 people out there so we could complete the chips & lining the fairways of #15, 16, & 17 of dead wood. This course has improved but still needs some work.

If possible, I would love to finish off the tees @ Fairfield on the 17th. We could also do more lining of #15, 16, & 17 fairways of dead wood & do more wood chips. I could then push back the next date until late July to do any final preparations for the Illinois Open. What do you guys think?

Would Saturday May 17th work for the next Fairfield Work Day? At this point I do not have a game scheduled unless we get a rain out. That would be great if we could do it this weekend. May 24th is the Saturday before Memorial Day. The Parkside Tournament is May 31st. Our tournament is June 7th. Junior Leagues start June 14th. Our schedule is very limited. Let me know.

I went out yestardy & the limestone tees were in good condition. There was no standing water on the tees. They seem to drain well. I packed down the front 1/2 of each pad with a tamp. Once they dry, I think they will hold up rather well.
