Are there any courses in the NW Chicago suburbs where you can borrow/rent equipment?  I want to try the sport, and I'm sure I'll like it enough to buy my own discs, but I just want to make sure.

I'm not aware of any rentals. You might post up where you're interested in playing and you might find someone who would meet up with you and play a round and let you use his or her discs.

As far as I know you can rent discs from the Oak Brook park district to play their course.  I know they used to advertise that.

Aside from that, I'd recommend contacting a local vendor that is willing to help make smart first disc selection to use and not have to browse mound after mound of disc choices trying to figure out a good starting point.  I know that I could set you up with a 3-disc starter set with a driver, mid-range, and putter for $25 including shipping.  One disc plus shipping would be $10, or two with shipping $19.

Where do you live? I'm sure there are people on this board that would be happy to meet you at a course and play a round, help introduce you to the game.  Almost every local tournament player probably has more discs than they know what to do with :)

I am sure there are plenty of players near you who have a putter and a dx tbird or something similar that they could give  you to see what you think. If you are northwest you may want to show up for the Buffalo Grove league tongiht (Monday) at Willow Stream Park. You don't have to play. Get there before 6pm and talk to the players and follow a group around for the league. That will give you an idea of what its all about.  I am sure there are plenty of extra discs in the bags and trunks of the players.

If you still like itt in a couple weeks show up at Jericho in Aurora on 8-13 or 14 when there is an IOS tournament. Scott will have plenty of inventory on hand and you can pick up a few discs without paying for shipping.
