Pre-registration is now online for the Discraft One-Disc Ace Race!  It will take place Saturday August 4th at Eagle Ridge in Oswego, IL.  A great relaxing and enjoyable time shared by all!  It's only $25 to play, and you get $50 worth of stuff in your player pack!  2 prototype Discraft discs plus a bunch of other cool swag.  The official list will be released later!

Pre-Register here: http://www.paperorplasticsports.com/2012/2012acerace.html

PLEASE NOTE: We are closing pre-registration TWO WEEKS before the event!  We have to order no later than 2 weeks before the Ace Race, so be sure to sign up!  We will order some extras for the people that come out that day to sign up, but if we run out, we cannot let you play!  Pre-register to GUARANTEE A SPOT.  Checkin will start at 8:30 AM, and the discs will be available on a first come, first serve basis.  You will be allowed to practice with your discs until a 10 AM tee off.  We will allow for a rotating tee time start since this is a more relaxed event.  I'll probably let people start up until as late as 11 AM, but I strongly feel that we are going to sell out this year and will have everyone going by 10:30.  It only takes about 90 minutes to walk the course twice!

A great event fill with lots of trash talking and cheering!  I'll see you there!!!

I will be out at Oswego this Sunday afternoon around 1pm scoping out where we are going to set up the tees for the Ace Race!  Feel free to come on out and pre-register for the Ace Race or for Marengo.

I'm not kidding when I say please pre-register for the ace race!  I have to order 2 weeks before the event, and I know a lot of people want to play this!  I cannot order again within the 2 week window.  Pre-registration closes in one week!  So far registration is at THREE.  I know that there are plenty more people than that who want to play!  You can pre-register in person with me in person if you don't want to do online or mail on Saturday at Jericho Lake (all day) or Sunday at Oswego (from about 1-3pm).  Pre-registration closes next Friday, July 20th.  I have to get some sort of approximation of how many to expect so that I know how much to order.  I don't want to order 100+ player packs if only 10 people pre-register.  90 walkups would be great but if I only get 10 pre-reg's I'd probably only order 20 total player packs.  I don't want to have to turn people away, so PLEASE pre-register for the Ace Race if you're planning on going!

The Ace Race Disc has been announced!  It will be a "hybrid driver", faster than a Buzzz, slower than a Stalker.  On the Innova Scale I'd probably say around speed 5-6.  The discs will be in Elite-Z plastic.  It's a slightly larger diameter disc as it can go up to 179g.  We have a large amount on order, and currently extended pre-registration through tomorrow, 7/27.  I don't know when the discs will be arriving, but I hope to get out to the course soon to set up some possible tees!

So what all do you get in your player pack?  You get 2 Elite-Z prototype discs, a Premium Discraft Water Bottle, a pair of Discraft Sunglasses, an exclusive Ace Race SuperColor mini, and a Discraft Vinyl Sticker.

Pre-Register here: http://www.paperorplasticsports.com/2012/2012acerace.html

Check in between 8:30-9:30 if possible please, player meeting at 9:45.  We will then have people teeing off starting at 10 AM. We will probably have a group teeing off every 5 minutes - allowing more people to continue to walk up and sign up if they are running late.  They just won't have the best choices on stuff!

Registration currently is at 38 I believe.  Plenty of spots available, but I know of quite a few people that plan on walking up to sign up and play!

Current registration is at 66!  Pre-registration is currently CLOSED.  WE will have 54 walk up spaces available Saturday morning, and based on the number of emails I have been receiving there's a HUGE chance that this will FILL.  We will start allowing walk-up registration at 8:30 AM Saturday morning.

I've never done one of these before and looking forward to it! I was wondering how it all works: each player throws 2x consecutively or twice around the course? What happens IF one were to lose a disc? Are there tee order procedures on each hole? And how long does it generally take to play and for the event itself? Just curious... :icon_question:

Sure, I have answers for all of those :)

And just for the record, I really hope you don't lose a disc when throwing these shots!

Anyway, expect the whole thing to take about 3 hours from the time you tee off.  It MIGHT take a little bit longer than that since the Oswego course has more walking than Jericho.

You're going to walk the course twice, at each hole you get to throw both discs.  The official Ace Race rules (that we are allowed to modify some) calls for one throw per hole.  To me that just sucks.  The first throw really helps you line up that second shot in my opinion.  If you Ace twice, you get two aces.  If you Ace and Metal on the two shots, you score an Ace and a Metal.  Simple.  Your two throws are done back to back.

Each group will be in a group of about 5 players.  I will have assigned tee times for people starting at 10 AM.  Everyone will start on the same hole and a new group will start every 3-5 minutes.  If we have 120 people that DOES mean it could take up to 2 hours to get everyone teed off.  I'm expecting it to go faster than that though.

NEW INFORMATION: We are adding a "19th" Hole!  You will START on this hole - it will be on the near side of the railroad tracks, then you do 2 rounds of 18, and then you FINISH on this hole.  Should be lots of fun!  That way everyone can get started (and finish!) right by tournament central as well :)

It is entirely possible that during the 2nd round for the first group that goes out they overlap with people still just getting started with their 1st round.  Should that happen you'll just have to wait on some holes.  I'm guessing it will take about 90 minutes to play the first round, and I'm going to try my best to get everyone teed off within that 90 minute time frame (so that means a new group teeing every 4 minutes).

If you lose a disc, you're down to one for the rest of the round.  It's also optional to not throw the 2nd disc since the base requirement is just one throw per hole.  Most people want to throw both though instead of not throwing it and saving it as a trophy disc for the wall.

Tee order goes by order of the card, and if there are Aces or Metals, the order hierarchy is as follows: Double Ace would go first, then single Ace, then double metal, then single metal, then no aces or metals.  However, keep in mind that this is a casual, relaxed event, so as long as people don't get unruly the order shouldn't matter.

You will NOT be able to make requests ahead of time, but here's the selection of available weights and colors that came in...

164-166 has options of yellow, green, or 2 blue
167-169 has options of yellow or green
170-172 has options of yellow, orange, red or pink
173-174 has options of red or orange
175-176 has 1 orange, rest are red
177+ has 1 yellow, rest are red

The majority of the discs are in the 170-174 range. We will have a scale available so that you can weigh your discs if you want to make sure you have 2 of the exact weight.

It's a MUCH better color selection than what I had two years ago where you either had orange or white, that's it!

All the tees are spray painted. Hole 6 is near hole 7's long tee. Should be lots of fun! I was throwing the 2010 Ace Race disc on about half of the holes and Metal'd on 3. It's going to be great! We are SPLITTING hole 16 into TWO holes, so there are going to be 20 total holes to throw!!! 16A goes from the Tee to a temp basket (we have it spray painted), and then 16B is near the big tree and plays to the current 16 basket.

Well that was fun!  We had right around 100 players, I don't have the official count because probably about 5 or so of the registrants just opted for player pack only and didn't play.

For those of you that missed it, here is hole #19, "The Monster" from behind the baskets looking back at the tee.
