Looks like DeKalb Park District decided to go ahead with the Annie's Woods disc golf 'course'.  I advised against this course at the August park board meeting  but apparently they disregarded much of my advice. Annie's Woods is a tiny neighborhood park that can be reached from NIU campus by crossing the Lucinda Ave. bridge over the Kishwaukee River and taking an immediate left. If you're there during school hours, there will likely be no parking available.

The design is for a four hole 'course'. The holes look to be between 140' and perhaps 200' in length. They are tight in between playground and backyards. At least they listened to me advising them against having people throwing to baskets only 5' off the property line though any accidental turnovers or out of control forehands will be backyard bound. Prep work is done to pour the concrete, full sized tee pads. No idea on planned completion date.

I'll be following through with this project hoping to make the best of what is.

At least a 4 hole course players will understand that its for practice and not a competitive destination.

Three tee pads within 250', more or less in line with no obstacles in between. I read this as:

- disc to the back of the head
- disc golf dangerous
- eliminate disc golf in any form

or

- no one uses our new disc golf 'course'
- therefor there is no need for more investment in the sport

I delineated my concerns in an e-mail. Wait and see if they act upon it. Having a nice, green level course can be an asset to a community. Most players are not competitive level so most courses should not be competitive quality, though there's no excuse for sloppy design. This is pretty much a waste of money.
