What discs could you work with? Is there a choice on what you dye or do you prefer to only work with certain discs?

I have some white ESP Buzzzes I could work with, I think.  I need to check that they are not FLX.  I'd have to do them on something white to get a red white and blue design to look red white and blue.

Bruce, I'll take that Cro if it is still available on Sunday at Aurora.

I remove the stamps from most of my discs, Star or otherwise.  I use brake parts cleaner and they come right off with no disc damage at all.  Comes in a can at Target for like 3 bucks.

I put your name on the bottom of the Cro.  You'll really like it.  It came out clean.

Looks like brake cleaner is mostly tetrachloroethylene.  The MSDS makes it look like scary stuff.  Have you tried it on the FLX plastic?

I'm not liking the way the FLX takes color, but it takes black o.k.

It seemed to work fine on the couple of FLX buzzes I have.

Bruce I saw you mention the Pistons discs on the Byron thread. Any chance you could hold one of those for me?

I'll try to remember to bring some Pistons and Red Wings discs for the displaced Michiganders.

I'm doing some dye work for a December arts and crafts show.  If there is anything you want that you've ever seen me do, now would be a good time to shoot me an e-mail.  If there is anything you want that I have not yet done, now would be a good time for me to work up some new designs.

I updated my GlowPhoto dyed disc inventory today.  But, I didn't get pictures of the Cat in the Hat.  Rats.  Oh, well, maybe on Sunday.  Does this board use BBCode?

Oh, yeah, that works.  Here's a link to my December dyed disc inventory.

And, I'm not seeing the Detroit Tigers and Lions discs.  Well, you guys don't care about those.  I'll get the camera girl to do some more work, but tomorrow we're playing a tournament.

Chicago Blackhawks
I looked at the Blackhawks' Indian head logo.  Too complex for me to want to try.  Their crossed tomahawks logo I could do, but only for a special order.

I've been playing around with geometric designs some more.  Suzanne and I have figured out how to do these quick and easy.  Anything that works for her works for me.  This is Geometric 6-5:

This one is Geometric Five Star:

Everthing is for sale and I can re-do this stuff on other plastic too.  I'm not spending hours cutting these on the disc.  Suzanne is cutting them with a machine.

Here's the Cat in the Hat:

Because the platic is clear it does not photograph well.  Live and in person, this is the best stuff I've ever done.

This is what I'd do to take better pics of those. Take a large box and cut the flaps off of it. Set it up open side up and put a shop light in it (cut a hole in the side for the cord. Stretch a white sheet across the top and put bricks or rocks on the floor to hold the sheet. Put the disc or discs on top and take the picture but don't use a flash. You might have to compensate the exposure a little for all the white in the back ground or you can adjust it in photoshop after.

Maybe if it was all set up right you could illuminate the disc without casting shadows on the backdrop.

In the past I've put a white paper insert inside the rime of clear stuff before shooting it.  It makes it better looking than it really is.

I'm not going to E-bay any of the Cat in the Hats so taking good pictures is not that important.  I've decided to go ordinary retail, cash-only, for discs with logos or art I don't own.  I'm doing the art for personal reasons, and if I sell the disc, I'm giving the art away for free.

That would not satisfy some Disney lawyer, but it satisfies my conscience.

There isn't really anything to get shadows from.

Oh, I get it.  You're talking about illuminating the discs from behind with the light behind the sheet.  I could do that on my tracing box.  We'll try that soon.

I just finished a set of these for a special order.  They all came out very nice.

You cannot tell from the photo but the red is a little speckled.  It looks nice speckled.  I mixed the dye according to the recipe, so what can I do?

Those look really nice!

You should use a white sheet though instead of a paisley one!  :P
