As for that weekend, I am heading in Friday night and staying until Sunday night. Saturday I will go play a course nearby there, Kimball Pines, as it will be a good practice course for Coldbrook (same types of shots, but harder). May try to get over towards the end of the Saturday event and get a quick round in at Coldbrook as well. If anyone is looking to get a hotel room over there, I actually run an online business directory for Kalamazoo and I can save you a few $$ on hotel rooms. Take a look at the hotels listed on www.gokzoo.com/lodging for those interested. If you decide to go with one, let me know and I will waive the booking fee ($6 savings, but hey that's lunch!). Make sure to PM me beforehand and we'll set it up. (edit note: the same booking system that I use also has nationwide hotels as well, so the same goes for anywhere if someone wants to save a few dollars on a hotel room anywhere)

Also, two weekends before that I think I am going to head over there for an event as well. This would be a Sunday event for the Michigan Intercollegiate Series, but guests are invited to play and can win money/score points as well. There is a bring your partner doubles round and then a match play singles after. This event is on Sunday the 27th so I would be heading over there on Saturday to play at Coldbrook to get some practice in. The collegiate event is not at Coldbrook however, but it is right nearby so it would make for a good golf weekend. We could probably arrange a carpool if anyone else is interested.

Coldbrook is a fun course and this is a generally well run tournament.  Coldbrook requires accuracy more than distance, skills more than power.  It is a course for the master of the Roc or Buzzz.  Lots of trees and narrow fairways.  Not a single lefty shot on it that I can think of.  There are places where holes are too close together so expect that.  If it is a snowy, a plastic sled with a tow rope is a fun way to pull your bag around.

There are a few lefty holes. I can think of three holes that are right turns. Most of the shots there require you to just throw straight, so left or right doesn't matter too much.

Another good piece of advice someone told me for there is to bring a big towel along to put down behind your disc so you don't slip on ice/snow/dirt/etc.

Not all right turns are "lefty" shots. I've seen plenty of courses that have holes that can be easily reached by a righty backhand anhyzer but not so much by a lefty backhand shot. It took me playing a few rounds with Bruce after he learned to throw lefty for me to understand the difference.

Weather is about the same as it is here really. As for what it's like in February...normally we had a pretty thick blanket of snow that time of year, but who knows. At this pace we'll be in shorts by then. The course is on the east side of a lake, so there will be some wind from that, even more if it's frozen over so that will cool it down some. I've not actually played this course in the winter, but I lived in that area for 7 years.

Normally this tournament is held on the coldest day of winter.  At least, the last two times I went to it it was the coldest day of winter.

Talked to a buddy of mine tonight that played at Coldbrook last night. He said he shot 8 over (not that great for a 942 rated player) and beat everyone that he was playing with. I guess it was pretty icy out there and the conditions weren't great. I'll be there on Saturday to test it myself and I will report back for those interested in the tourney.

About an inch of snow on the ground on Saturday there at Coldbrook. Teepads were a bit slippery so hopefully someone gets out there a few times in the next few weeks with a shovel and some salt. With a little bit of salt it will be in great conditions. Scores on Saturday ranged from one down to four up for the 3 of us.

10 inches of snow dropped last night there. I was in the area for the weekend and play was obviously pretty tough this morning. I lost 2 discs.

I might be able to do this if I can get my friend to meet me out there from the Detroit area though...probably have to play AM2 though 'cause it's on Sat. and I'd have to be on a train all Sunday...I dunno if I'd play in that much snow either.

SIUFrolf

10 Inches!!!! uh oh, I'd better put some homing beacons on my discs for this one :o  I have never played in that much snow before, it will be a test for sure, of eyesight and walking ability
